Sara Rosario
Sara Rosario Vélez (born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico) is a Puerto Rican sports executive who has served as the President of the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (COPUR) since 2012. Rosario is the first woman to hold the presidency of COPUR. Rosario has been involved in sports since 1987. She became a member of the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee, or COPUR, in 1991. She served as the Chef de Mission for the Puerto Rican Olympic team at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. In November 2012, David Bernier, the incumbent COPUR president since 2008, announced his resignation after he was appointed Secretary of State of Puerto Rico by incoming Governor-elect Alejandro García Padilla. COPUR elected Sara Rosario as its new president in early December 2012, three weeks after Bernier's announced his intention to step. Puerto Rico Olympic Committee
The Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (COPUR, es, Comité Olímpico de Puerto Rico) is the National Olympic Committee for Puerto Rico. It oversees Olympic-sports in Puerto Rico, and selects the Olympic team which represents the island. It was founded by Julio Enrique Monagas, and was officially recognized in 1948. COPUR operates the ''Casa Olímpica'', its headquarters in Old San Juan. Teams representing Puerto Rico have participated in every Summer Olympics since 1948. Puerto Rico first participated at the Olympic Games in 1948, and has sent athletes to compete in every Summer Olympic Games since then. Puerto Rico has also participated in the Winter Olympic Games since 1984, but did not participate in the Games of 2006, 2010, and 2014. Puerto Rican athletes have won a total of ten medals. Six medals were won in boxing, two in track and field, one in tennis, and one in wrestling. The Puerto Rican national baseball team won a bronze medal at the 1988 Summer Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea. However, that medal is not counted among Puerto Rico's Olympic medals totals as baseball was an exhibition sport during those games. Monica Puig Marchán, (born September 27, 1993) is a Puerto Rican former professional tennis player. She is the first Puerto Rican in history to win a gold medal at the Olympics while representing Puerto Rico, having done so in 2016 at the women's singles event. She is also a Central American and Caribbean champion and Pan American silver medalist. Having turned professional in 2010, Puig won two WTA singles titles and six ITF singles titles. On 26 September 2016, she reached her career-high singles ranking of world No. 27. On 25 May 2015, she peaked at No. 210 in the doubles rankings.
