Sanya EPrix
The Sanya ePrix was an automobile race of the Formula E championship in Sanya, People's Republic of China. Its first and only appearance on the Formula E calendar was in the 2018–19 season. Background China had hosted two ePrix before on the Beijing Olympic Green Circuit, located in the grounds of the Olympic Stadium used initially for the 2008 Summer Olympics. The two races took place in 2014 and 2015. In July 2018 it was announced that Formula E would return to China for the 2018–19 season, now in Sanya. The first race took place on 23 March 2019, as Race 6 of the calendar. The inaugural event was won by Jean-Éric Vergne driving for DS Techeetah. The race was not without incidents, with an early crash causing Stoffel Vandoorne and Sam Bird to retire, before finishing the race under a yellow flag due an incident involving Robin Frijns, Lucas Di Grassi and Sebastien Buemi. Haitang Bay Circuit
The Haitang Bay Circuit is a street circuit located in the Haitang Bay area of Sanya, in the Chinese island of Hainan. It is used for the Sanya ePrix of the single-seater, electrically powered Formula E Formula E, officially the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, is a single-seater motorsport championship for electric cars. DS Techeetah
DS Techeetah (, ) is a Sino-French motor racing team under ownership of SECA - China Media Capital that competes in the electric racing series, Formula E. Formula E Team Aguri principal Aguri Suzuki announced he would leave the team in April 2016 as senior personnel entered "a period of consultation" over a future change in ownership. In the week before the 2016 London ePrix, the Chinese public equity and venture capital firm China Media Capital announced its purchase of Team Aguri and established a new entity named Techeetah in its place. 2019 Sanya EPrix
The 2019 Sanya ePrix (formally the 2019 FWD Sanya E-Prix) was a Formula E electric motor race held in Sanya on the Chinese island of Hainan on 23 March 2019. It was the 6th race of the 2018–19 Formula E season, and the first ePrix to be held in China since the 2015 Beijing ePrix and the first Sanya ePrix. Report Background The Sanya ePrix was announced as part of the 2018–19 calendar in June 2018 by Formula E founder, Alejandro Agag, and was confirmed as season 5's 6th race on 10 January 2019. It was the first time since 2015 an ePrix was held on mainland China, the first time an ePrix was held in Sanya and was run on the Haitang Bay Circuit. Street Circuit
A street circuit is a motorsport racing circuit composed of temporarily closed-off public roads of a city, town or village, used in motor races. Airport runways and taxiways are also sometimes part of street circuits. Facilities such as the paddock, pit boxes, fences and grandstands are usually installed temporarily and removed soon after the race is over but in modern times the pits, garages, race control and main grandstands are sometimes permanently constructed in the area. Since the track surface is originally planned for normal speeds, race drivers often find street circuits bumpy and lacking grip. Lucas Di Grassi
Lucas Tucci di Grassi (born 11 August 1984) is a Brazilian professional racing driver who competes in the FIA Formula E World Championship for Mahindra Racing. He became the FIA Formula E Champion in 2016–2017, achieved three overall podiums at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and won the Macau Grand Prix in 2005. Born in São Paulo, di Grassi began racing karts at the age of ten, and achieved early success in the regional and later national kart series. He progressed to car racing in 2002 and was the runner up in the Formula Renault 2.0 Brazil and Formula 3 Sudamericana championships. Di Grassi took two consecutive victories in the 2004 British Formula Three Championship and progressed to the Euro Series the following year which saw him clinch a solitary race victory and was the winner of the non-championship Macau Grand Prix.
