El Santuario is a town and municipality in the Antioquia Department, Colombia. Part of the subregion of Eastern Antioquia. El Santuario was founded on 11 March 1765 by Captain Antonio Gómez de Castro. Its elevation is 2.150 masl with an average temperature of 17 °C. The Municipalities of Colombia are decentralized subdivisions of the Republic of Colombia. Municipalities make up most of the departments of Colombia with 1,122 municipalities (''municipios''). Eastern Antioquia
Eastern Antioquia ( es, Oriente Antioqueño) is subregion of the Colombian Department of Antioquia. The region consists of 23 municipalities. Geography The region of Eastern Antioquia limits to the north west with the Metropolitan Area of Medellín and with Northeastern Antioquia region.
