picture info	Rocca Calascio The Castle of Rocca Calascio is a mountaintop fortress or '' rocca'' in the municipality of Calascio, in the Province of L'Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy. At an elevation of , the castle is the highest fortress in the Apennines. Built of stone and masonry exclusively for military purposes and intended only to accommodate troops and never as residence for nobles, the fortress overlooks the Plain of Navelli at one of the highest points in the ancient Barony of Carapelle. Construction of the fortress started in the tenth century as a single watchtower. A walled courtyard with four cylindrical towers at the corners around a taller inner tower was added in the thirteenth century. The lower half of the fortress is built with distinctively larger stones than its upper half. It is believed that this feature was to make its base impenetrable to invaders. 	Santa Maria Della Pietà, Ferrara The Church of the Theatines (Teatini), also known as Santa Maria della Pietà is a Roman Catholic, Baroque-style church and monastery located on Corso della Giovecca, in central Ferrara, region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. In 1618, prompted by Laura Sighizzi, along with Cardinal Carlo Emanuel Pio of Savoy bought a house in the neighborhood of Giovecca to open an oratory for the Theatine Order dedicated to the Madonna della Pieta. The architect Luca Danese was commissioned to design the church, which was completed in 1653 and decorated in Baroque fashion. The facade remains incomplete in brick. The interiors are highly decorated according to an inventory from the late 18th century. In the choir were paintings depicting the '' Life of San Gaetano'' by Clemente Maiola. Maiola also frescoed angels in a ceiling for the chapel near the presbytery, which also has works by Scarsellino. 	Santa Maria Della Pietà, Palermo The Church of Saint Mary of Pity (Italian: Chiesa di Santa Maria della Pietà) is a Baroque church of Palermo. It is located at the corner of Via Alloro and Via Torremuzza in the quarter of the Kalsa, within the historic centre of Palermo. History Francesco Abatellis, captain in the service of the army of King Ferdinand II of Aragon, lacking heirs, endowed in 1495 the foundation of a Benedictine monastery under the name of Santa Maria della Pietà. The monastery, which occupied the Palazzo Abatellis, was founded in 1526, but contrary to the wishes of Abatellis the community of nuns elected to follow the Dominican rule. The first nuns transferred here from the monastery of Santa Caterina. Construction of the church started in 1678. 	Santa Maria Della Pietà, Venice The church of Santa Maria della Pietà or della Visitazione is a prominent church in the sestiere of Castello in Venice, Italy. It is sited on the ''Riva degli Schiavoni'', a short walk from the Doge's Palace. History The present church was built from 1745-1760 adjacent to the site of an earlier church, and adjacent to the orphanage and hospital, the Ospedale della Pietà. The design was by Giorgio Massari, but its façade remained incomplete, with marble facing rising only a third of the way up the columns. In 1906, it was completed but without the originally projected three statues on the roof. Only a single simple cross ornaments the centre. Above the entrance is a large bas-relief representing ''Charity'' (1800) by Marsili. The interior is oval. The ceilings were frescoed by Tiepolo depicting ''Strength and Peace'' and ''Triumph of Faith'', flanked by angelic musicians, while the presbytery was painted by the same artist with the theological Virtues, (1745-1755).
