Santa Maria De Lavaix
Santa Maria de Lavaix was a Romanesque Benedictine monastery in Pantà d'Escales in the municipality of El Pont de Suert, Alta Ribagorça, Catalonia, Spain. It was first mentioned in the 10th century. In the 13th century it fell under the Barony of Erill and in 1223 it became a Cistercians’ abbey. By the beginning of the 19th century it had declined and was finally shut down during the Ecclesiastical Confiscations of Mendizábal in 1835. Upon the construction of the Escales Dam in June 1955, the old monastery was flooded and little remains other than the walls and traces of the northeast angle of the nave. Alta Ribagorça
Alta Ribagorça () is one of the comarques of Catalonia, Spain. Its capital is Pont de Suert. The highest peak is the Comaloformo (3030 metres above sea level) in the massif of Bessiberri. Northeast of the region is the western part of the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. It is connected with the Aran valley thorough the Vielha tunnel. The Catalan Romanesque Churches of the Vall de Boí are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.(Nov. 30, 2000) In the North-East of the area there is the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, which attracts an important number of visitors. Escales Dam
Escales (; oc, Escalas) is a commune in the Aude department in southern France, principally involved in viticulture. Geography Escales lies in the northernmost part of the Corbières AOC wine growing area 30 km from Narbonne to the east, and 30 km from Carcassonne to the west. Population Economy Escales benefits greatly from its wine. It has a small factory called 'Le Progres' which joined forces with a neighbouring factory in Tourouzelle in 2006 to manufacture red, white and rose wines. The factory was built in 1933 when 133 local winegrowers produced 10,210 hectolitres of wine. Personalities Achille Mir, an Occitan poet of note lived in the village between 1801-1879.
