Santa Maria Assunta, Ombriano
Santa Maria Assunta is the Roman Catholic parish church of Ombriano, a suburb of Crema, region of Lombardy, Italy. A church at the site is documented from the 11th century, but the present brick structure was built on the same foundations from 1786 to circa 1797. It was dedicated to the Madonna of the Assumption. Its interior was decorated in 1890 by Angelo Bacchetta. Giambettino Cignaroli
Giambettino Cignaroli (Verona, July 4, 1706 – Verona, December 1, 1770) was an Italian painter of the Rococo and early Neoclassic period. Biography He was a pupil of Santo Prunato and Antonio Balestra and active mostly in the area of the Veneto. He became the director of the academy of painting and sculpture of Verona in December 1764. The Academy was subsequently known as ''Accademia Cignaroli''. Among his many pupils were Maria Suppioti Ceroni, Giovanni Battista Lorenzi, Saverio Dalla Rosa, Domenico Mondini, Domenico Pedarzoli, and Christopher Unterberger. His brother Giovanni Domenico Cignaroli was also a painter. Biography Callisto, a member of the Piazza family of painters, was born in Lodi, Lombardy. In 1523 he was working in Brescia. His first dated and signed work is from the following year, and shows a typical Brescian style. This style was then emerging, and included artists such as Romanino and Moretto. Piazza shows influences from contemporaries such as Dosso Dossi and Ludovico Mazzolino of the Ferrarese school, as well as Giovanni Agostino da Lodi. Ombriano
Ombriano (called Umbrià in the local dialect) is a village which forms a suburban district of Crema, in the province of Cremona, in the region of Lombardy in Italy. It is located 1.95 kilometers west of Crema proper, along the road to Lodi. History The locality is mentioned for the first time in 1092. It was then an agricultural village located along the road to Lodi. In the Napoleonic age (1809–16), Ombriano became a part of Crema, but recovered its autonomy with the establishment of the Kingdom of Lombardy–Venetia in 1815. At the time of the Italian unification in 1861 the village had 1,544 inhabitants. In 1865 the Municipality of Porta Ombriano was merged with the Municipality of Ombriano. In 1928 the Municipality of Ombriano was definitively annexed to Crema.
