Basilica of Santa Margherita is a Gothic Revival architecture, Neo-gothic style, Roman Catholic church, located just outside the Tuscany, Tuscan town of Cortona, Italy, at the intersection of Via delle Santucce and Via Sant Margherita, on a hill just below the Fortezza Medicea, Cortona, Fortezza Medicea, and dedicated to a native saint of town, Margaret of Cortona. file:Basilica S. Damaged during the 1258 siege of the town by Arezzo, the church and adjacent convent were rebuilt in 1288 by efforts led by ''Margherita di Cortona'' herself, a Franciscan tertiary, and dedicated to Saints Basil, Egidius, and Catherine of Alexandria. Giuseppe Castellucci
Giuseppe Castellucci (28 April 1863 – 8 April 1939) was an Italian architect, mostly specializing in restoration or updating works in a Neo-gothic style. Biography Giuseppe Castellucci was born in Arezzo, and active throughout Tuscany as an architect. He studied at the Museo Industriale of Turin. Among his mentors and teachers were Luigi del Moro, Vincenzo Micheli, and Crescentino Caselli. As a young man, he helped illustrate with K. Von Stegmann and H. Von Geymuller the text of ''Architetture del Rinascimento in Toscana'' (''Die Architekur der Renaissance in Toscana''), published in 1885 in Munich. He became a frequent commentator and illustrater for the journal of ''Ricordi di Architettura''. Osvaldo Bignami (Lodi, 1856 – Civate (Lecco), 1936) was an Italian painter. Biography Osvaldo Bignami was apprenticed to a decorative artist in Milan, where he moved when he was in his twenties, and later enrolled at the Brera Academy. From his earliest work, he was oriented towards fresco decoration: this was the technique he used in the portraits of Masaccio and Giovanni Bellini (originally on the loggias of the Brera Palazzo in Milan and now lost) which won him the Mylius Prize in 1893 and 1894. Church interior San Francesco is a 13th-century, Roman Catholic church located on via Berrettini in Cortona, region of Tuscany, Italy. History Built in 1245, the church has the typical Franciscan pattern: a large nave ending in an apse with a groin vault, flanked by two smaller side-chapels also with groin vaults. The facade holds a lancet-arched main doorway with three small columns in a recess, and a large circular window set above. In the apse are the mouldings of the partially walled Gothic windows. Vincenzo Pacetti
Vincenzo Pacetti (1746–1820) was an Italian sculptor and restorer from Castel Bolognese, particularly active in collecting and freely restoring and completing classical sculptures such as the Barberini Faun (1799 – now in the Glyptothek, Munich)— his most famous work— the Hope Dionysus (now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art) and the Athena of Velletri (1797 – now in the Louvre) and selling them on to rich collectors as finished artefacts.
