Santa Lucía () is a municipality in the Boaco department of Nicaragua. It has a population of 10,300 (2006, est.) and an extension of 120.78 km2. The capital is the town of Santa Lucía located 94 km from Managua. Approx. 72% of the population lives in rural areas and 28% in the urban zones. Overview The economy is based mainly on agriculture with around 2,200 small farmers in the whole municipality. There are also some agropecuarian activities. The mayor of the municipality of Santa Lucía is Elba Maria Salinas Guzmán from the Constitutional Liberal Party (PLC). History Back in the days of the Spanish colony, the town of Santa Lucía was known as ''Potreritos'' (''small pasturelands'', in English) and was part of the municipality of Teustepe. Municipalities Of Nicaragua
The 15 departments and 2 autonomous regions of Nicaragua are divided into 153 municipalities. The formation and dissolution of municipalities is governed by the Law of Municipalities (in Spanish: ''Ley No.40 - Ley de Municipalidades''), drafted and approved by the National Assembly on July 2. 1988. The municipalities are responsible for planning and urban development, collection of municipal taxes, maintenance of public utilities and other services, such as parks, sewerage and public cemeteries. Whilst municipal governments may not be responsible for large highways, small roads and tracks usually come under their control. Elba Maria Salinas Guzmán
Elba ( it, isola d'Elba, ; la, Ilva) is a Mediterranean island in Tuscany, Italy, from the coastal town of Piombino on the Italian mainland, and the largest island of the Tuscan Archipelago. Constitutional Liberal Party
The Constitutionalist Liberal Party ( es, Partido Liberal Constitucionalista, PLC) is a political party in Nicaragua. At the Nicaraguan general election of 5 November 2006, the party won 25 of 92 seats in the National Assembly. However, the party suffered a devastating loss in the 2011 general election, losing 23 seats in the National Assembly. History The Constitutionalist Liberal Party is the political successor of the Democratic Party, a faction which has existed since Nicaragua became independent during the 1830s. Teustepe
Teustepe is a municipality in the Boaco department of Nicaragua. It has a population of 26,800 (2006, est.) and an extension of 645.73 km2. The capital is the town of Teustepe, 94 km. from Managua with a population of 3,500 (2006, est.). Teustepe is sustained mainly by the agricultural sector, with about 20,000 units of livestock and secondly by agricultural activities. There are also some incipient tourism in the ''Aguas Termales'' (termal waters) region and a very small scale family-based industry (handicrafts mainly) in the urban and rural areas. Saint Lucy
Lucia of Syracuse (283–304), also called Saint Lucia ( la, Sancta Lucia) better known as Saint Lucy, was a Roman Christian martyr who died during the Diocletianic Persecution. She is venerated as a saint in the Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, and Eastern Orthodox churches. She is one of eight women (including the Virgin Mary) explicitly commemorated by Catholics in the Canon of the Mass. Boaco () is the capital city and a municipality of the Boaco Department of Nicaragua. The municipality of Boaco has a population of 62,936 (2021 est.) and an area of 1,087 km2 (26% of the Boaco Department) while the department (state) is 4,177 km2. The city of Boaco, with a population of 26,014 (2021 estimate), is located in the mountains 88 km. east of Managua.
