South Whittier () is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Los Angeles County, California just south of the city of Whittier. As of the 2020 census, the CDP had a total population of 56,415, down from 57,156 at the 2010 census. On 16 November 2022, a driver veered onto the wrong side of the road in an SUV and hit 25 Los Angeles County sheriff's and police recruits who were jogging near the sheriff's training academy near Mills Avenue and Trumball Street. The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway , often referred to as the Santa Fe or AT&SF, was one of the larger railroads in the United States. The railroad was chartered in February 1859 to serve the cities of Atchison and Topeka, Kansas, and Santa Fe, New Mexico. The railroad reached the Kansas–Colorado border in 1873 and Pueblo, Colorado, in 1876. To create a demand for its services, the railroad set up real estate offices and sold farmland from the land grants that it was awarded by Congress.
