Santa Clara High School (SCHS) is a private, Roman Catholic four-year high school serving grades 9-12 in Oxnard, California. It is located within in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Originally founded in September 1901, it is the oldest high school in Ventura County. History The school, originally named St. Joseph's Institute, was founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet on September 2, 1901. The school moved to the top floor of the Santa Clara Elementary School building on South "E" Street, and in April 1930, the name was changed to Santa Clara High School. Over the next two decades, increasing enrollment necessitated a new facility, and under the leadership of Monsignor Anthony Jacobs, and a generous land grant from Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Friedrich, the new Santa Clara High School opened on South Saviers Road in the spring of 1952. Oxnard, California
Oxnard () is a city in Ventura County, California, United States. On California's South Coast, it is the most populous city in Ventura County and the 22nd-most-populous city in California. Incorporated in 1903, Oxnard lies approximately west of downtown Los Angeles and is part of the larger Greater Los Angeles area. It is at the western edge of the fertile Oxnard Plain, adjacent to agricultural fields with strawberries, lima beans and other vegetable crops. Isaiah Amir Mustafa (born February 11, 1974) is an American actor and former American football wide receiver. Shot Put
The shot put is a track and field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical ball—the ''shot''—as far as possible. The shot put competition for men has been a part of the modern Olympics since their revival in 1896, and women's competition began in 1948. The 1984 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the XXIII Olympiad and also known as Los Angeles 1984) were an international multi-sport event held from July 28 to August 12, 1984, in Los Angeles, California, United States. Dave Laut
David Lester Laut (December 21, 1956 – August 27, 2009) was an American shot putter. He was born in Findlay, Ohio, and grew up in Oxnard, California. Laut attended Art Haycox Elementary School, E. O. Green Junior High School, Santa Clara High School, Moorpark College (all in Ventura County), along with San Jose City College and UCLA, where he was a two-time NCAA champion and ranked No. 1 shot putter in the United States. Career Laut won the bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He also won the gold medal at the 1979 Pan American Games and the bronze at the 1981 IAAF World Cup. He was the 1979, 1981, 1983 and 1985 United States champion in the shot put. His personal best throw was 22.02 meters, achieved in August 1982 in Koblenz. Terrance Dotsy (born November 24, 1981) is a former American football lineman who played four seasons with the Dallas Desperados of the Arena Football League. He first enrolled at Ventura College before transferring to the University of California, Berkeley. Dotsy was also a member of the Quad City Steamwheelers of the af2. Early years Dotsy played high school football at Santa Clara High School in Oxnard, California. He was a three-year starter at both tight end and defensive end for the Saints. Lou Cvijanovich (September 7, 1926 – November 24, 2018) was an American basketball coach for Santa Clara High School in Oxnard, California from 1958 to 1999. His 829 wins are the most by a high school basketball coach in California history. Biography In addition to his 829 victories, Cvijanovich led the Santa Clara program to three California state championships (1989, 1990 and 1999), 15 CIF Southern Section titles, the second highest total in state history, and 30 league championships, the most ever. Eight-man football is a form of gridiron football, generally played by high schools with smaller enrollments. Eight-man football differs from the traditional 11-man game with the reduction of three players on each side of the ball and a field width that can be reduced to 40 yards, 13 1/3 yards narrower than the 53 1/3-yard 11-man field.
