Little Santa Anita Canyon
Little Santa Anita Canyon is a canyon in the southern San Gabriel Mountains and Angeles National Forest, within Los Angeles County, southern California, The canyon runs south from Mount Wilson down to the town of Sierra Madre. Little Santa Anita Creek, which flows in it, is dammed by the Sierra Madre Dam. The Mount Wilson Trail, a hiking trail along the western side of the canyon to the summit of Mount Wilson, has its trailhead in Sierra Madre. Santa Anita Metro Station
Santa Anita is a station on the Mexico City Metro. Located in Mexico City's Iztacalco borough, the station is the current terminal of Line 4. General information The station logo depicts a man sailing a canoe. This is because in the early 20th century, in the area where the station now stands, was the Santa Anita canal – a place used for '' chinampa''-based agriculture. Today the canal has long since vanished, but the name Santa Anita is still used by the surrounding neighborhood. Metro Line 4 was originally projected to end in the Villa Coapa neighborhood, in the southern borough of Coyoacán. Since the inauguration of Line B, however, no more lines have been constructed or extended, so Metro Santa Anita – and other stations, such as Metro Barranca del Muerto – officially remain provisional terminals. Rancho Santa Anita
Rancho Santa Anita was a land grant in present-day Los Angeles County, California given to naturalized Scottish immigrant Hugo Reid and his Kizh people wife. Reid built an adobe residence there in 1839, and the land grant was formally recognized by Governor Pio Pico in 1845. The land grant covered all or portions of the present day cities of Arcadia, Monrovia, Sierra Madre, Pasadena and San Marino. A small portion of the rancho has been preserved as the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden. History The land granted to Reid was previously owned by the Mission San Gabriel. The San Gabriel Mission was founded in 1771 as the 4th of the Spanish missions in California. Santa Anita is a village in Los Cabos Municipality, Baja California Sur, western Mexico. It is located north of San Jose del Cabo on the right bank of the Arroyo San José along Federal Highway 1. It had a population of 687 inhabitants in the 2010 census, and is situated at an elevation of 76 meters (249 ft.) above sea level. In 1968, it was described as a "little farming village". Santa Anita Canyon is a canyon in the San Gabriel Mountains, within the City of Arcadia, CA in Los Angeles County, California. Geography Above Irwindale its main stem is known as Santa Anita Creek, which extends another 10 miles (16 km) northwards into the San Gabriel Mountains where the source headwaters of the river are found. The 'Big Santa Anita Canyon' with Santa Anita Creek is part of the watershed of the Rio Hondo, which flows from the mountains through the San Gabriel Valley and passes through the Whittier Narrows, a natural gap in the hills which form the southern boundary of the San Gabriel Valley. Officially established as a district on October 25, 1989, from parts of Ate and El Agustino separated by the ''Rio Surco'', a ditch which went all the way to Santiago de Surco. The Santa Anita Golf Course, located in the city of Arcadia, California, was operated by Santa Anita Associates for the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation from 1986-2016. New operators will take over beginning September 2016. History The upon which the golf course was built has always been devoted to recreation in some form or another. The original architect was James Harrison Smith. Originally part of the "Lucky" Baldwin Ranch, Santa Anita's history dates back to the days when its broad oaks sheltered places where Indians camped. Across its broad acres traveled Mission Fathers from San Gabriel on their way up Little Santa Anita Canyon for lumber needed to build the Mission. The Shops at Santa Anita is a super-regional shopping mall located in Arcadia, California, adjacent to the Santa Anita Race Track, formerly known as Santa Anita Fashion Park and Westfield Santa Anita. History The mall opened as the Santa Anita Fashion Park on October 14, 1974, with original anchors JCPenney, The Broadway, Buffum's and J. W. Robinson's. Only Buffums was open at the mall opening and the other anchors opened gradually through 1976. The western wing was demolished and expanded in the late 1980s, completing in 1994 with a Nordstrom store replacing Buffum's. The J.W. The Santa Anita Handicap is an American Thoroughbred horse race held annually in early March at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. It is a Grade I race for horses four years old and up and was once considered the most important race for older horses in North America during the winter racing season. The ten-furlong Santa Anita Handicap currently offers a purse of $650,000. History The first race was held in 1935, just months after the track opened in late 1934, and the event was open to three-year-olds and up until 1969. The Santa Anita Handicap instantly became one of the nation's top races because it offered a minimum purse of $100,000, then a staggering amount for a horse race. In its early years, the race was most commonly referred to among horsemen and racing media as the "Hundred-Grander."
