Sant'Andrea di Compito (also ''Sant'Andrea di Cómpito'') is a frazione of Capannori in the province of Lucca region of Tuscany in Italy. The settlement styles itself ''The Village of Camellias'' as it is home to an exceptional collection of ancient Camellia Cultivars which attract visitors annually. Geography Sant'Andrea di Compito lies approximately 6 km south of the town of Capannori, 10 km south-east of the provincial capital Lucca and 55 km west of the regional capital Florence. The province of Lucca ( it, provincia di Lucca) is a province in the Tuscany region of Italy. Its capital is the city of Lucca. It has an area of and a total population of about 390,000. There are 33 '' comuni'' (singular: ''comune'') in the province. Geography Situated in northwestern coastal Italy, within Tuscany, Lucca borders the Ligurian Sea to the west, the provinces of Massa e Carrara to the northwest, Pisa to the south, Pistoia to the north-east and Firenze to the east. Saint Sebastian
Saint Sebastian (in Latin: ''Sebastianus''; Narbo, Gallia Narbonensis, Roman Empire c. AD 255 – Rome, Italia, Roman Empire c. AD 288) was an early Christian saint and martyr. According to traditional belief, he was killed during the Diocletianic Persecution of Christians. He was initially tied to a post or tree and shot with arrows, though this did not kill him. He was, according to tradition, rescued and healed by Saint Irene of Rome, which became a popular subject in 17th-century painting. In all versions of the story, shortly after his recovery he went to Diocletian to warn him about his sins, and as a result was clubbed to death. He is venerated in the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church. The oldest record of the details of Sebastian's martyrdom is found in the '' Chronograph of 354'', which mentions him as a martyr, venerated on January 20. Benedetto Brandimarte
Benedetto Brandimarte or Brandimarti (late-16th century) was an Italian painter. He is a representative of the Mannerist style, which is reflected in the extreme artificiality shown in the unnatural movement of the figures and the brilliance of the colors of his works. Life Very little is known about the artist. He was likely born in Lucca the second half of the sixteenth century. Hired in 1581 by Prince Giovanni Andrea Doria, he began to receive a salary for his activity in Genoa from the next year. The Prince sent him to Spain and on his return commissioned various works from him for the churches supported by the Prince: in 1590 he painted a ''Nativity'' and an ''Assumption'' for the Church of Sant'Agostino in Loano and a little later the doors of the organ (now dismembered) in the Church of Saint Benedict of Fassolo.
