Sant'Agnese, Lodi
The Church of Sant'Agnese is a Gothic-style, Augustinian church in Lodi, Lombardy, a region of Italy. The church was expanded in 1393 by Bonifacio Bottigella when he became Bishop of Lodi. Bottigella oversaw the diocese until 1404. The church has been celebrated as representing a great moment in Lombard Gothic Architecture. The polygonal apse and two-tiered bell-tower are similar to that of the Lodi Cathedral. Facade The Facade resembles that of the Lodi Cathedral. Its defining characters are its accentuated vertical extension, arched windows, a staggered cornice, unique pointed pinnacles, and Acroterion decoration. Interior The interior has three naves of equal height supported by ornate groin-vaults. This is supported by rows of cylindrical pillars. The original structure is almost entirely intact, although the original late-Gothic paintings which adorned the walls have not survived. Sant'Agnese is a 14th-century Roman Catholic former church located on via Sant'Agnese corner via Dante in the city of Padua in the region of Veneto, Italy. The church deconsecrated in the 1949s, was sold in 2011 to convert to residential units. History A church was present here by the 12th century, but the present structure, except for the still standing Romanesque bell-tower, with a steep conical roof, was erected starting in 1362. The facade is from the 16th century. The portico and adjacent vicariate was removed in the 20th-century. The Renaissance portal is still in place was complete by Giovanni Maria Mosca. The church of Saint Agnes Outside the Walls ( it, Sant'Agnese fuori le mura) is a titulus church, minor basilica in Rome, on a site sloping down from the Via Nomentana, which runs north-east out of the city, still under its ancient name. What are said to be the remains of Saint Agnes are below the high altar. The church is built over the Catacombs of Saint Agnes, where the saint was originally buried, and which may still be visited from the church. A large basilica with the same name was built nearby in the 4th century and its ruins can be seen near Santa Costanza, in the same site. The existing church was built by Pope Honorius I in the 7th century, and largely retains its original structure, despite many changes to the decoration.
