The Sanremo Music Festival 1979 ( it, Festival di Sanremo 1979), officially the 29th Italian Song Festival (), was the 29th annual Sanremo Music Festival, held at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo, province of Imperia between 11 and 13 January 1979. The final night was broadcast by Rai 1, while the first two nights were broadcast live only by radio. The show was presented by Mike Bongiorno, assisted by the actress Anna Maria Rizzoli. Mike Bongiorno
Michael Nicholas Salvatore Bongiorno (; May 26, 1924 – September 8, 2009) was an Italian-American television host. After a few experiences in the US, he started working on RAI in the 1950s and was considered to be the most popular host in Italy. He was also known by the nickname ''il Re del Quiz'' ("The Quiz King"), and the peculiarity of starting all his shows with his trademark greeting: ''Allegria!'' ("Cheers!", "Joy!"). Early years Bongiorno was born in New York City to parents of Italian descent. He moved to Turin (his mother's native city), when he was young. His father was a Sicilian-American lawyer of partial Arbëreshë origin. During World War II, he abandoned his studies and joined a group of Italian partisans. He was captured and spent seven months in the San Vittore prison in Milan and was then deported to a German concentration camp. Daniele Pace
Daniele Pace (20 April 1935 – 24 October 1985) was an Italian composer, lyricist and singer-songwriter. Life and career Born in Milan, Pace started his career as lead vocalist of the group I Marcellini. After a brief solo career as a singer-songwriter, in the early 1960s he was enrolled by CGD as a composer and lyricist, often teaming with Mario Panzeri. The duo had several hits, and some of their songs were covered in other languages and became international successes. In 1971 he co-founded the comedy music group Squallor, and in 1979 he recorded a solo album, ''Vitamina C''. Pace's collaborations include Gigliola Cinquetti, France Gall, Caterina Caselli, Ricchi e Poveri, Loredana Bertè, Roberto Carlos, Orietta Berti, Mario Lavezzi, I Camaleonti, Eduardo De Crescenzo, Connie Francis and Massimo Ranieri. Sanremo (; lij, Sanrémmo(ro) or , ) or San Remo is a city and comune on the Mediterranean coast of Liguria, in northwestern Italy. Founded in Roman times, it has a population of 55,000, and is known as a tourist destination on the Italian Riviera. Gianfranco Mocchetti, also known as Gianni Mocchetti, (31 May 1947 – 28 January 2013) was an Italian singer-songwriter, guitarist and bassist. Career Mocchetti began playing the guitar with beat groups and formed the group Cristalli fragili, with Gianfranco D'Adda on drums and percussion and Richard Pirolli on vocals (the latter of whom would later have a solo career under the name Genco Pure & Co.) In the same period he began working as a session musician in the recording studio, playing on records by various artists. In 1971 Cristalli fragili were discovered by Franco Battiato, and with the addition of other musicians, including keyboardist Roberto Cacciapaglia, the group became the Battiatio's support group in the studio and in live performances. Pierre Antoine Muraccioli (born 4 June 1944), known professionally as Antoine, is a French pop singer, and also a sailor, adventurer, writer, photographer, and filmmaker. Kim & The Cadillacs (also spelled "Kim and The Cadillacs") was a Milan-based English rock band, active from the late seventies until the late eighties. For the majority of their career they recorded with Alfredo Rossi's label Ariston Records. Francesco "Franco" Migliacci (born 28 October 1930 in Mantua) is a lyricist, producer, and actor. Biography He studied in Florence where his family had settled, here he entered in a competition for young players, in which he won a stay of three days to Cinecittà and a modest role in a film by Nino Taranto. After this, he moved to Rome and the world of cinema where he worked in small parts in about 18 films. In 1958, with Domenico Modugno, Migliacci coauthored the song ''Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu'', aka '' Volare'', which has become one of the most well-known Italian songs in the world. Mario Panzeri (11 October 1911 – 19 May 1991) was an Italian lyricist and composer. He is well known for his composed songs that include "Maramao perché sei morto?"
