Sankebetsu Brown Bear Incident
The , also known as the or the , was the most brutal bear attack in Japanese history. It took place from December 9-14, 1915, when a Ussuri brown bear woke from hibernation and repeatedly attacked several houses in Hokkaidō, Japan, killing seven settlers. Prelude At dawn in mid-November 1915, a Ussuri brown bear appeared at the Ikeda family's house in Sankebetsu Rokusen-sawa, about 11 kilometers inland from the west coast of Hokkaidō. The surprise encounter prompted the family horse into panic, but the bear fled after taking only harvested corn. In those days, Sankebetsu was newly settled; encroachment by wild animals was not uncommon. On November 20, 1915, the bear reappeared. Akira Yoshimura
was an award-winning Japanese writer. Internationally he is best known for his novels ''Shipwrecks'' and ''On Parole''. Life and work Yoshimura was the president of the Japanese writers' union and a PEN member. He published over 20 novels, of which ''On Parole'' and ''Shipwrecks'' are internationally known and have been translated into several languages. In 1984 he received the Yomiuri Prize for his novel ''Hagoku'' (, ''On Parole'') based on the true story of Yoshie Shiratori. Sloth Bear Of Mysore
The Sloth bear of Mysore was an unusually aggressive Indian sloth bear responsible for the deaths of at least 12 people and the mauling of two dozen others in 1957. It was killed by Kenneth Anderson, who described it in his memoirs ''Man-Eaters and Jungle Killers'': The reasons given to explain the Mysore sloth bear's unusual behaviour varied. Some of the natives within the bear's killing range thought that the bear was a sow taking revenge on humanity after her cubs were stolen. Bunta Sugawara
was a Japanese actor who appeared in almost 200 feature films. Dropping out of Waseda University, he worked as a model before entering the film industry in 1956. After years of work, Sugawara finally established himself as a famous actor at the age of 39, with the lead role of Shozo Hirono in the ''Battles Without Honor and Humanity'' series (1973–1976) of yakuza films. , real name , was a Japanese manga artist. He specialized in manga with ecological messages. His most famous manga was ''Fisherman Sanpei'', which won the Kodansha Children's Manga Award in 1974. Biography Takao Yaguchi was born on 28 October 1939 in Nishinaruse-mura, Ogachi District, Akita Prefecture, in the Empire of Japan. (also sometimes credited as 三国連太郎) (January 20, 1923 – April 14, 2013) was a Japanese film actor from Gunma Prefecture.
