Sangmeshwar Gurav
Sangameshwar Gurav was a singer associated with the Kirana Gharana movement. He was taught musical skills by Ganpatrao Gurav. Career Gurav was born in Jamkhandi where his father, Ganpatrao Gurav, was a court musician. Ganpatrao was a direct descendant of Abdul Karim Khan. He was raised by father in Dharwad. He was a teacher in the music department of Karnatak University where he worked alongside Mallikarjun Mansur, Basavraj Rajguru, and Gangubai Hangal. Awards Gurav received the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi award for Hindustani vocal music in 2001. Death and descendants Gurav died on 7 May 2014 at the age of 86. He is survived by wife, two sons, and two daughters. His son Kaivalya Kumar Gurav continues the musical lineage. His other son Nandikeshwar is a tabla artist employed at Karnatak University. Hindustani Classical Music
Hindustani classical music is the classical music of northern regions of the Indian subcontinent. It may also be called North Indian classical music or, in Hindustani, ''shastriya sangeet'' (). It is played in instruments like the violin, sitar and sarod. Its origins from the 12th century CE, when it diverged from Carnatic music, the classical tradition in South India. Hindustani classical music arose in the Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb, a period of great influence of Perso-Arabic arts in the subcontinent, especially the Northern parts. Kirana gharana is one of the Indian classical khyal gharanas, and is concerned foremost with perfect intonation of notes (swara). Singing style The central concern of the Kirana style is swara, or individual notes, in particular precise tuning and expression of notes. In the Kirana Gayaki (singing style), the individual notes (swaras) of the raga are not just random points in the scale, but independent realms of music capable of horizontal expansion. Kaivalya Kumar Gurav
Pandit Kaivalya Kumar Gurav is a third generation singer from the Kirana Gharana (singing style) of Indian classical music. Early life Gurav belongs to a family of musicians. His grandfather, Pt. Ganapatrao Gurav, was a disciple of Bhaskar Buva Bhakle, the first in line from Ustad Abdul Karim Khan who was the founder of the Kirana Gharana. Training under his grandfather, Pt Sangameshwar Gurav was known for singing in true Kirana Gharana tradition. His father groomed the young Gurav in vocal skills who then started his musical career with Marathi Natyasangeet and then entered to Khayal singing. Career Kaivalya has several albums to his credit. Bhimsen Joshi
Pandit Bhimsen Gururaj Joshi BR (; ; 4 February 1922 – 24 January 2011), also known by the honorific prefix Pandit, was one of the greatest Indian vocalists from Karnataka, in the Hindustani classical tradition. He is known for the '' khayal'' form of singing, as well as for his popular renditions of devotional music (''bhajans'' and '' abhangs''). Joshi belongs to the Kirana gharana tradition of Hindustani Classical Music. He is noted for his concerts, and between 1964 to 1982 Joshi toured Afghanistan, Italy, France, Canada and USA. He was the first musician from India whose concerts were advertised through posters in New York City. Joshi was instrumental in organising the Sawai Gandharva Music Festival annually, as homage to his guru, Sawai Gandharva.
