Sangli district (Marathi pronunciation: Help:IPA/Marathi, [saːŋɡli]) is a Districts of Maharashtra, district of Maharashtra state in India. Sangli city is the district headquarters. It is bordered by Satara district, Solapur district to the North, Karnataka state to South-East, by Kolhapur district to South-West and by narrow portion in East side to Ratnagiri district. It is present on the southern tip of Maharashtra. The district is 25.11% urban. Sangli and Miraj are the largest cities. The industrial cities like Kirloskarwadi and Palus, Maharashtra, palus is also located in the Sangli District. Industrialist Laxmanrao Kirloskar started his first factory here. National Highway 4 (India, Old Numbering)
National Highway 4 (NH 4) was a major National Highway before National Highway renumbering in Western and Southern India. NH 4 linked four of the 10 most populous Indian cities – Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, and Chennai. NH 4 was in length and passed through the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Route NH 4 constituted roughly 90% of the Golden Quadrilateral's Mumbai–Chennai segment. As a part of this project NH 4 has been widened from two-lane single carriageway to four-lane dual carriageway.
