Sangeet Sharada
''Sangeet Sharada'' is an 1899 Marathi Sangeet Natak (Musical play), written and directed by playwright Govind Ballal Deval. The play is considered as the first play in Marathi to showcase the social problems and broke the norms by dealing with the subject of child marriage when dramatic literature in India mainly focused on historical-mythological narrations. Over the period of time, various stage actors like Bal Gandharva, Vishnupant Pagnis, Bhalchandra Pendharkar have performed the lead role of Sharada. Going with the format of Sangeet Natak, play had more than 50 songs, penned and composed by Govind Ballal Deval himself and music attained a cult status over the period of time. The play "is considered to be a pioneer in social drama in India" and gained the popularity in such a way that when the Child Marriage Restraint Act, proposed by Haribilas Sarda, also known "Sarda Act", was passed in 1929; it was mistaken to be named after the play as "Sharada Act". Govind Ballal Deval
Govind Ballal Deval (1855–1916) was a Marathi playwright from Maharashtra, India. Deval was born in 1855 in a village in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, but he spent his childhood in Haripur near Sangli. He attended a high school in Belgaum, where he came in contact with, and was influenced by, playwright/actor Balwant Pandurang Kirloskar, who worked as a teacher in that school. After a late high school graduation in 1879 at age 24, Deval worked for a few years as a teacher in the same school, moved to Pune to finish in 1894 a college course in Agriculture, and worked for a short while as a botany school teacher. An elder brother of Deval was a musician, while another brother was an accomplished actor in ''Ichalkaranjikar Natak Mandali''. Jog (raga)
Jog is a Raga in Hindustani classical music. It is one of the more popular ragas appearing often in films. Sometimes, experts assign this raga to be a member of Kafi thaat. Structure Raga Jog omits the second and the sixth intervals, Ri and Dha, making it pentatonic, or Audav in nature. In ascending, it uses Shuddha Ga, and in descending, it uses Komal Ga. It takes Raga Tilang for its base which itself is derived from Khamaj. Anant Laxman Kanhere
Anant Laxman Kanhere (7 January 1892, Aayani, India - 19 April 1910) was an Indian independence fighter. On 21 December 1909, he shot Arthur Mason Tippetts Jackson, who was the district collector of Nashik in British India. The murder was an important event in the history of Nashik and the Indian revolutionary movement in Maharashtra. Background Kanhere was born on 7 January 1892 in Aayani (Anjani), a small village in Khed Taluka, Ratnagiri district in a Brahmin family. He completed his primary education in Nizamabad (which was then also called as Indur), and his English education took place in Aurangabad. In 1908, Kanhere returned to Aurangabad where he met with member of secret revolutionary groups. Gangaram had a friend at Yewale named Tonpe. He was member of the secret society of Nashik.
