Sanford M. Green
Sanford Moon Green (May 30, 1807 – August 13, 1901) was an American politician, lawyer, and jurist. Born in Grafton, New York, Green studied law and was admitted to the New York bar. In 1837, Green moved to Owosso, Michigan and continue to practice law. From 1843 to 1847, Green served in the Michigan State Senate and was a Democrat. While in the Michigan Senate, Green helped revised the Michigan state statures. Green then served on the Michigan Supreme Court from 1848 to 1857 and was the chief justice. From 1858 to 1867, Green served as a Michigan Circuit Court judge. In 1867, Green retired and moved to Bay City, Michigan Bay City is a city and county seat of Bay County in the U.S. state of Michigan, located near the base of the Saginaw Bay on Lake Huron. Grafton, New York
Grafton is a town in Rensselaer County, New York, United States. The population was 2,130 at the 2010 census. It is believed that the town received its name from Grafton, Vermont, where the first town supervisor, Nathaniel Dumbleton, was originally from. The town is an interior town near the north-central part of the county. NY Route 2 passes across the town. Grafton is notable for having a Peace Pagoda, built by Nipponzan Myohoji buddhist order in 1993. History The town of Grafton was originally a part of the Manor of Rensselaerswyck, and at that time was known as Roxborough. Owosso, Michigan
Owosso is the largest city in Shiawassee County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 15,194 at the 2010 census. The city is mostly surrounded by Owosso Township on its west, but the two are administered autonomously. The city was named after Chief Wosso, an Ojibwe leader of the Shiawassee area. History Alfred L. and Benjamin O. Williams were early European-American settlers in the area. They were joined by Elias Comstock, who built the first permanent home in the settlement. Dr. John B. Barnes, a physician and a judge, and Sophronia King Barnes moved to Owosso in 1842. They lived on Oliver and Water streets where they operated an Underground Railroad waystation, where they provided aid and shelter for enslaved African Americans.
