Dummer School, located just north of the current district headquarters on Wells Street in Sandwich. The district grew to accommodate the growth of the community: there are now three elementary schools, a transitional school for kids in 4th and 5th Grade, a junior high school, and a high school. There have been plans to build a new high school to eliminate overcrowding at the current high school for around ten years, with no definitive plans gone ahead with. Sandwich, Illinois
Sandwich is a city in DeKalb and Kendall counties in the U.S. state of Illinois. Its population was 7,421 at the 2010 census and 7,221 at the 2020 census. History The town's history is tied to politician "Long John" Wentworth and his efforts to move the Illinois border with Wisconsin from being even with the bottom of Lake Michigan to its present location. If those efforts had not been successful, the state line would reside along the LaSalle-DeKalb County border, placing the incorporated community in Wisconsin. The community was established when Almon Gage sought a railroad stop on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad that ran through town. Originally naming it Newark Station (not to be confused with the nearby village of Newark) he and Wentworth worked extensively to create the community and also to get the railroad stop created. Sandwich Community High School is a public four-year secondary education school located in Sandwich, Illinois, about 60 miles from Chicago. The high school is part of Sandwich Community Unit School District 430. The school is a member of the Interstate Eight Conference, and the school participates in Baseball, Softball, Volleyball, Cross Country, Soccer, Golf, Boys/Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Boys/Girls Track & Field, Fishing, Swimming and Diving, Doing It, Scholastic Bowl, and all music-related competitions. The high school is currently a class 4A school in Football, while competing as class A or B in other events due to its enrollment size. History School was initially held at Herman E. Dummer School, which at that time served as the high school until the class sizes grew too big for the school.
