Folk Music
Folk music is a music genre that includes traditional folk music and the contemporary genre that evolved from the former during the 20th-century folk revival. Some types of folk music may be called world music. Traditional folk music has been defined in several ways: as music transmitted orally, music with unknown composers, music that is played on traditional instruments, music about cultural or national identity, music that changes between generations (folk process), music associated with a people's folklore, or music performed by custom over a long period of time. It has been contrasted with commercial and classical styles. The term originated in the 19th century, but folk music extends beyond that. Starting in the mid-20th century, a new form of popular folk music evolved from traditional folk music. This process and period is called the (second) folk revival and reached a zenith in the 1960s. The Science Of Breath
''The Science of Breath'' is a 2002 album by Sandro Perri under the name Polmo Polpo. Fusing Dark Ambient and Ambient Techno music, the record was well-received critically. It was followed in 2003 by ''Like Hearts Swelling''. The album cover is adorned with an underwater photo of an octopus. The pieces themselves, as implied by the title and artwork, are very "watery". They make heavy use of muffled but driving 4/4 rhythms, distorted feedback, and echoing synths or guitars. The music has been described as "opaque" and "darkly aquatic". There is also a recurring breathing motif. In a manner akin to Boards of Canada, ''The Science of Breath'' alternates longer, more fully developed tracks with shorter ambient pieces. In this case the ambient pieces are "High Breathing", "Mid Breathing", "Low Breathing" and "Complete Breath". Each of these pieces is deeper in pitch than the last, giving the listener the impression of a deep-sea dive Diving most often refers to: * Diving (sport), ...
