Sandra Forgues (born 22 December 1969, in Tarbes), formerly known as Wilfrid Forgues, is a French whitewater slalom, slalom canoeist who competed as a male athlete from the late 1980s to the early 2000s (decade). In 2018, Forgues revealed publicly her identity as a trans woman. Competing in three Summer Olympics, she won two medals in the C2 event with a gold in 1996 Summer Olympics, 1996 and a bronze in 1992 Summer Olympics, 1992. Forgues also won four medals in the C2 event at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships with two golds (1991 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, 1991, 1997 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, 1997), a silver (1995 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, 1995), and a bronze (1993 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships, 1993). She earned 5 more medals in the C2 team event (2 golds, 2 silvers and 1 bronze). Whitewater Slalom
Canoe slalom (previously known as whitewater slalom) is a competitive sport with the aim to navigate a decked canoe or kayak through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on river rapids in the fastest time possible. It is one of the two kayak and canoeing disciplines at the Summer Olympics, and is referred to by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Canoe/Kayak Slalom. The other Olympic canoeing discipline is canoe sprint. Wildwater canoeing is a non-Olympic paddlesport. History Canoe slalom racing started in Switzerland in 1933, initially on a flatwater course. In 1946, the International Canoe Federation (ICF), which governs the sport, was formed. The first World Championships were held in 1949 in Switzerland. From 1949 to 1999, the championships were held every odd-numbered year and have been held annually in non- Summer Olympic years since 2002.
