Sandon Railway Station
Sandon railway station was a railway station opened by the North Staffordshire Railway to serve the village of Sandon, Staffordshire, England. For some time it was called Sandon and Salt to avoid confusion with Salt and Sandon railway station opened by the Stafford and Uttoxeter Railway in 1867. Although in a country area and in some distance from the village it served, the station building was in an ornate Jacobean style with ornate gable ends and, on the entrance side, a substantial ''Porte-cochère''. This was for the convenience of Dudley Ryder, 2nd Earl of Harrowby, who was about to have a new Jacobethan country house built in nearby Sandon Park. There was a decorated timber awning and, on the opposite platform, a small but similarly elegant waiting-room. Sandon, Staffordshire
Sandon is a village in Staffordshire, about northeast of Stafford. The village is in the Trent Valley on the A51 road. Sandon Park There is a rectangular moated site in Sandon Park, about northeast of the parish church. The site measures about by and the moat varies from to wide. It was the site of the parish's manor house, which was the home of the Erdeswick family from 1338 until the middle of the 17th century. The moat site is a scheduled monument. In 1776 Nathaniel Ryder was ennobled as Baron Harrowby. He commissioned the architect Samuel Wyatt to transform the manor house into Sandon Hall and the landscape gardener William Emes to create a park. Creating the park involved demolishing Sandon village, which was close to the house and parish church, and building a new village further away from the house and church. Stone railway station serves the town of Stone, Staffordshire, England. The station is located on a junction of the Colwich, Staffordshire, Colwich to Manchester spur of the West Coast Main Line, but has platforms only on the branch from Stafford railway station, Stafford to Stoke-on-Trent railway station, Stoke-on-Trent. History There have been two stations at Stone and both were opened by the North Staffordshire Railway. The first opened on 17 April 1848 and was next to the Newcastle Road bridge.
