Sand Ridge, Wharton County, Texas
Sand Ridge is an unincorporated community in Wharton County, Texas, United States. It is located within the Greater Houston metropolitan area. History The first producing oil well in Wharton County was drilled in 1925 in the Boling Field near Iago. This started an oil drilling boom during which numerous fields were exploited. Maps of 1936 displayed two churches, a cemetery and several homes in Sand Ridge. In the 1980s the New Colorado Tabernacle Church and another church and several homes were in the vicinity. The railroad was discontinued in 1992 and the rails were removed. In 2013 the Sandridge Baptist Church and the adjacent San Ridge & Mt Gilead Cemetery were located at the site. El Campo Independent School District
The El Campo Independent School District is a public school district based in El Campo, Texas, United States. The district serves El Campo as well as rural areas in central and south central Wharton County. In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. Mark Pool was the superintendent until sometime in 2015. In January of that year, the district began searching for a new superintendent. By April the only finalist for the position was Kelly Waters, the ECISD assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, and a member of the El Campo High School Class of 1984. The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway , often referred to as the Santa Fe or AT&SF, was one of the larger railroads in the United States. The railroad was chartered in February 1859 to serve the cities of Atchison, Kansas, Atchison and Topeka, Kansas, and Santa Fe, New Mexico. The railroad reached the Kansas–Colorado border in 1873 and Pueblo, Colorado, in 1876. Farm to Market Road 102 (FM 102) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Texas. The highway begins at State Highway 60 (SH 60) in Wharton in Wharton County. It heads northwest through Eagle Lake in Colorado County and ends at Interstate 10 (I-10) near Alleyton, which is just east of Columbus in Colorado County. Boling-Iago ( ) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Wharton County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,271 as of the 2000 United States Census. Boling-Iago is located along Farm to Market Road 1301 about southeast of Wharton, the county seat. Boling is located at the intersection of FM 1301 and Farm to Market Road 442, while the community of Iago is to the northeast at the intersection of FM 1301 and Farm to Market Road 1096.
