Sand Creek, Guyana
Sand Creek (Wapishana: ''Suburun Tao'') is a village in the Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo Region of Guyana. Sand Creek is inhabited by Wapishana Amerindians. It is located on the Rupununi River. The main language spoken in the village is Wapishana with English as secondary language. Overview The economy of Sand Creek is based on livestock ranching and subsistence farming. The village has a primary and secondary school as well as a health centre. The village is known for the Sand Creek Rodeo which takes place every Easter Monday. The rodeo started in the 1980s as a pass time for the villagers, but has turned into a professional rodeo attracting visitors from all over the country. Sand Creek (Tebo Creek)
Sand Creek is a stream in Henry County in the U.S. state of Missouri. It is a tributary of Tebo Creek. The stream headwaters are just east of Missouri Route 13 about two miles south of Shawnee Mound (at ) and the stream flows southeast to cross Missouri Route 52 just west of Calhoun. The stream is impounded as a small lake west of Calhoun. From there the stream flows south then east to its confluence with Tebo Creek (at ). The stream was originally named ''Little Tebo Creek'', but was renamed Sand Creek to avoid confusion. The name was chosen due to the presence of a large sand dune or sand bar along its course. Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site
Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site is a National Historic Site in Kiowa County, Colorado, commemorating the Sand Creek Massacre that occurred here on November 29, 1864. The site is considered sacred after the unprovoked assault on an encampment of approximately 750 Native people resulted in the murder of hundreds of men, women and children. Near Eads and Chivington, the site is about southeast of Denver and about east of Pueblo. A few basic park facilities have been opened at this site. In 1999, archaeological teams from the National Park Service, Dept. of the Interior BLM, Colorado Historical Society and accompanied by Native American observers, made a major archaeological discovery of remains of the massacre site. Large numbers of period bullets, camp equipment, and other items convinced the NPS that they had found the correct site.
