Sanabis
Sanabis ( ar, سنابس ') is a village located in the Kingdom of Bahrain, in the suburbs of the capital city, Manama. Etymology The definition of the word ''Sanabis'' is disputed, with the most popular view being that members of the Sunbus tribe which traces its origins to the Qahtanite Tayy tribe migrated from Khobar to Qatif and Bahrain and the areas that they settled in were named Sinbas after the tribe's name but which later became known as Sanabis. History In J. G. Lorimer's Gazetteer of the Persian Gulf (1908), Sanabis is said to be inhabited by 1500 Baharna who primarily engage in boat-building, pearling and fishing. According to his report, the village had a noticeable pretty mosque situated in the centre of the village. At the time, there were an estimated 900 date palm trees, 16 donkeys, 10 cattle, and 30 pearling boats belonging to Sanabis. Muharram In Bahrain
The Islamic month of Muharram is a period of mourning in Shia Islam and commemorates the death of Imam Hussain, the third Imam, and his companions at the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD. Processions called Azadari ( ar, عزاداری) are held to commemorate and remember the events that took place, these are often organised by congregation halls known as ''Hussainia''. Mourning climaxes on the tenth day of Muharram, Ashura. The mourning is sometimes referred to as the ''Remembrance of Muharram'' ( ar, ذكرى محرم). 2022 Bahraini General Election
General elections were held in Bahrain on 12 November 2022 to elect the 40 members of the Council of Representatives, with a second round in some constituencies on 19 November. The elections were condemned domestically and internationally as a sham. Rights groups condemned the atmosphere of "political repression". The Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy, based in London, called it a "sham", and Amnesty International stated that the elections were "held in an environment of political repression following a decade in which the authorities have infringed upon human rights, curtailed civil society, banned political opposition parties and shuttered independent media". They issued a report on the elections, "Bahrain: Elections, But No Civic Space" in which they stated that Bahrain's political system did not, in practice, allow citizens to peacefully and legally seek constitutional change. Pearl hunting, also known as pearling, is the activity of recovering pearls from wild molluscs, usually oysters or mussels, in the sea or freshwater. Pearl hunting was prevalent in the Persian Gulf region and Japan for thousands of years. On the northern and north-western coast of Western Australia pearl diving began in the 1850s, and started in the Torres Strait Islands in the 1860s, where the term also covers diving for nacre or mother of pearl found in what were known as pearl shells. In most cases the pearl-bearing molluscs live at depths where they are not manually accessible from the surface, and diving or the use of some form of tool is needed to reach them. The Central Business District (CBD) is located in central Manama, the capital of Bahrain. Many of the city's hotels, office buildings, shops and restaurants are located in the CBD. It lies along the northern coast of Manama. The CBD is considered one of the best shopping areas in the city; it has the Manama Souq (market, in Arabic), located near the Bab Al Bahrain (the Gateway of Bahrain). Seef ( ar, السيف) is a commercial district in Manama, the capital city of Bahrain. Etymology The word 'seef' means coast or shore in the Gulf Arabic lexicon, similar to 'sahel'. History Seef is a result of active land reclamation work starting in the 1980s, which has dramatically changed the Bahrain coastline. Surrounded on three sides by the sea, Seef is a district dominated by office blocks, luxury apartments, hotels and multiple shopping malls. Rents in Seef (alongside Amwaj Islands) are reportedly the highest in the entire country. Seef is fast developing into a business centre with many local and multinational companies building their offices in the area. Qatar Digital Library (QDL) is a bilingual online library which was launched as a joint venture by a partnership consisting of Qatar Foundation, Qatar National Library and the British Library in October 2014. QDL comprises one of the largest online collections of historic records on the Persian Gulf countries. History Qatar Digital Library was first announced in 2012. The starting budget was reported as £8.7 million. The partnership sought to digitize a rich trove of heritage material documenting Arab and Islamic history and to make it freely accessible to the public through the QDL, which was launched online in October 2014. Ashura (, , ) is a day of commemoration in Islam. It occurs annually on the 10th of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar. Baharna
The Baharna ( ar, بحارنة) are the indigenous Shia Muslim inhabitants of Bahrain who inhabited the area before the arrival of Sunni Muslim Arab tribes from Najd, particularly by Banu Utbah in the 18th century which the Bahraini royal family is from. They are generally regarded by scholars and Bahraini people to be the original inhabitants of the Bahrain archipelago. Most Shi'i Bahraini citizens are Baharna. Regions with most of the population are in Eastern Arabia (Bahrain, Qatif, al-Hasa), with historical diaspora populations in Kuwait, (see Baharna in Kuwait), Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Khuzestan Province in Iran, and United States.
