Sana Gallery
Sana Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in Singapore focused on Middle Eastern art. Sana Gallery was founded in 2012 by Assaad W. Razzouk, the British-Lebanese clean energy and climate change entrepreneur. The gallery was officially opened on October 25, 2012, as the first Middle Eastern contemporary art gallery in South East Asia, with an exhibition of works by the Syrian artist Thaer Maarouf and the Syrian-Lebanese painter Semaan Khawam in a show entitled ''Kisses of an Enemy''. Sana Gallery showcases "I Read I Write," an exhibition by Palestinian photographer Laura Boushnak, from June 19 to July 28, 2013. The exhibition shows portraits of Arab women committed to becoming literate, each with a poignant story of how she came to read and write, are initially manipulated by superimposing written sentences in the subjects' own hand. Laura Boushnak
Laura Boushnak ( ar, لورا بشناق; born 1976) is a Kuwaiti-born Palestinian photographer whose work is focused on women, literacy, and education reform in the Arab world. For her ongoing documentary project "I Read I Write" she photographed girls and women changing their lives with education in Egypt, Yemen, Kuwait, Jordan and Tunisia. Early life Boushnak was born in Kuwait in 1976 to third-generation Palestinian refugee parents. She attended public school there until Palestinian children were not allowed to attend public schools in retaliation for the Palestine Liberation Organization's (PLO) support for Iraq's 1991 Invasion of Kuwait. She then transferred to Fajer al-Sabah School, a private Catholic school. Rania Matar
Rania Matar (born 1964) is a Lebanese/Palestinian/American Documentary photography, documentary, Portrait photography, portrait and Fine-art photography, fine art photographer. She photographs the daily lives of girls and women in the Middle East and in the United States, including Refugees of the Syrian Civil War, Syrian refugees. Early life Matar was born and raised in Lebanon and moved to the U.S. in 1984. Originally trained as an architect at the American University of Beirut and at Cornell University, she later studied photography at the New England School of Photography and the Maine Photographic Workshops. Since 2009 she has taught photographic workshops for teenage girls in Lebanon’s refugee camps. She now teaches at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and exhibits her work worldwide.
