Mercato San Severino ( Sanseverinese: ) is a town and ''comune'' of the province of Salerno in the Campania region of south-west Italy. Mercato San Severino shares borders with the municipalities of Baronissi, Bracigliano, Castel San Giorgio, Cava de' Tirreni, Fisciano, Montoro, Roccapiemonte and Siano. Transport Mercato San Severino is served by two railway stations: Mercato San Severino is located in the middle of the town, on the lines Salerno-Mercato San Severino, Cancello-Benevento via Avellino and Mercato San Severino-Nocera Inferiore. On this second line is located the stop of Valle, in the same-named suburb of Sant'Angelo in Macerata. San Severino Marche is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Macerata in the Italian region Marche, located about southwest of Ancona and about southwest of Macerata. History From prehistory to Roman age The oldest remains of human presence in San Severino date back to the Palaeolithic and their provenance is from the area of Stigliano. But there are other remains, found in many localities of the communal territory, documenting several settlements in the area in different ages. San Severino (Centola)
San Severino is an Italian village and hamlet (''frazione'') of the municipality of Centola in the Province of Salerno, Campania. As of 2011 its population was of 435. History Known until 1861 as San Severino di Camerota, the village was founded in the 10th-11th century. The original settlement, located upon a hill, was gradually abandoned during the end of the 19th century after the construction of a railway line. New houses were built in the valley, just below the hill but closer to the railway. Nowadays the ancient village is a ghost town and a preserved heritage, because of the conservation status of its medieval structure. Geography Located in the valley of Mingardo river, close to the mount Bulgheria, San Severino develops along the provincial road SP 109, in southern Cilento. Santi Severino E Sossio, Naples
The church of Santi Severino e Sossio and the annexed monastery are located on via Bartolommeo Capasso in Naples, Italy. The church is attached to one of the oldest monasteries in the city, and from 1835 it has housed the State Archives of Naples. It was founded in the tenth century by the Benedictine Order, but the Saracen raids of the time forced them to abandon the old monastery, located on the hill of Pizzofalcone, taking the relics of San Severino with them. In 904 they added to these the relics of San Sossio, martyred companion of San Gennaro. They remained here till 1808, when they were taken to Frattamaggiore. During the Angevin reign a number of important events occurred in this monastery, such as the convening of parliament in 1394 by the Sanseverino family, who were supporters of Louis II of Anjou. Severinus of Noricum ( 410 – 8 January 482) is a saint, known as the "Apostle to Noricum". It has been speculated that he was born in either Southern Italy or in the Roman province of Africa. Severinus himself refused to discuss his personal history before his appearance along the Danube in Noricum, after the death of Attila in 453. However, he did mention experiences with eastern desert monasticism, and his ''vita'' draws connections between Severinus and Saint Anthony of Lerins. Saint Severinus of Noricum is not to be confused with Severinus of Septempeda, bishop of San Severino Marche and brother of Saint Victorinus of Camerino. Life Little is known of his origins. Saint Severin of Cologne ( la, Severinus) was the third Bishop of Cologne, living in the later 4th century. Life Severin is said in 376 to have founded a monastery in the then Colonia Agrippina in honour of the martyrs Saints Cornelius and Cyprian, from which developed the later Basilica of St. Severin. Severin is notable as a prominent opponent of Arianism.
