San Pedro Del Los Francos, Catalayud
The Church of San Pedro de los Francos (Spanish language, Spanish: ''Iglesia de San Pedro de los Francos'') is a church located on Via la Rua in Calatayud, Spain. It was declared ''Bien de Interés Cultural'' in 1875. History The church was founded by Alfonso I el Batallador, after the Reconquista of Calatayud, to thank his French mercenary troops. The church was built in the 14th-century over an earlier temple. It has a typical Mudéjar architecture, Mudéjar structure of 3 naves and apses. Art and Architecture The entrance portal is Gothic architecture, Gothic in style with a peaked arch flanked by standing sculptures of St Peter and Paul, while the lintel has some awkwardly seated Christ (center), the Virgin and St John, all sheltered by a ledge with architecture. Inside the main gilded Retablo at the high altar has Baroque art, Baroque Solomonic columns, and was completed in 1654. Other chapels include a retablo with Renaissance art, Renaissance style panels. Calatayud
Calatayud (; 2014 pop. 20,658) is a Municipalities of Spain, municipality in the Province of Zaragoza, within Aragón, Spain, lying on the river Jalón (river), Jalón, in the midst of the Sistema Ibérico mountain range. It is the second-largest town in the province after the capital, Zaragoza, and the largest town in Aragón other than the three provincial capitals. It is the seat of the Comarcas of Spain, comarca of Comunidad de Calatayud, Calatayud. Its population has been declining during the last decade due to migration. The town motto is ''Muy noble, leal, siempre augusta y fidelísima ciudad de Calatayud'' ("The very noble, loyal, always august and most faithful town of Calatayud"). The first democratic elections after Spanish State, General Franco's regime were called for 15 June 1977.
