Edward Vigil
Edward Vigil is an American politician who served in the Colorado House of Representatives from the 62nd district as a member of the Democratic Party from 2009 to 2017. He served on the county commission in Costilla County, Colorado prior to his tenure in the state house. Early life and career Vigil was born in San Pablo, Colorado, and married Evelyn. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration and sociology from Adams State University. Vigil served on the county commission in Costilla County, Colorado. During his tenure in the state house he served as the vice-chair of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee and as chair of the Capitol Development Committee. Carlos Beaubien
Charles H. Beaubien (October 22, 1800 – February 6, 1864), also known as Alexis Beaubien, Don Carlos Beaubien and Charles Trotier, was a Canadian-born American fur trader who was one of two investors who owned of northeastern New Mexico and southeastern Colorado in the Beaubien-Miranda and Sangre de Cristo Land Grants. Early life Beaubien was born in Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Nicolet, Quebec. His birth name was Alexis Beaubien (Sieur de Beaubien is a title, his birth surname is most likely Trotier). He studied for the priesthood, and was tonsured in 1820. When he dropped out of the priesthood he changed his name to "Charles" in 1820 and moved to the United States (probably at St. Louis, Missouri where he worked in the fur business with the Chouteau family). Sangre De Cristo Land Grant
The Sangre de Cristo Land Grant in the San Luis Valley of southern Colorado and northern New Mexico consists of of mostly arid land. It was awarded by the government of New Mexico to the Beaubien family in 1843. The land grant was originally settled by Hispanics from New Mexico. Since the incorporation of the area of the grant into the United States in 1848, legal disputes between the descendants of the Hispanic settlers and Anglo ranchers about ownership of and access to some of the land in the grant area have been frequent and continued into the 21st century. Rio Culebra (also called Culebra River, Río de la Culebra and Culebra Creek) is a river or creek in Costilla County, Colorado. The Rio Culebra rises in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and is long. The Town of San Luis is a statutory town that is the county seat and the most populous town of Costilla County, Colorado, United States. Formerly known as ''San Luis de la Culebra'', it is the oldest continuously occupied town in Colorado. The population was 629 at the 2010 census.
