San Juan River (Veracruz)
The San Juan River is a river of Veracruz state in eastern Mexico. It is a tributary of the Papaloapan River. The San Juan River is formed by the confluence of the Lalana and Trinidad rivers, whose headwaters are in the Sierra de Villa Alta sub-range of the Sierra Madre de Oaxaca. The San Juan flows northeastwards before turning northwestwards. It receives the Hueyapan River, which drains the southwestern slopes of the Sierra de los Tuxtlas, before emptying into the lower Papaloapan. Papaloapan River
The Papaloapan River () is one of the main rivers of the Political divisions of Mexico, Mexican state of Veracruz (state), Veracruz. Its name comes from the Nahuatl ''papaloapan'' meaning "river of the Butterfly, butterflies". Veracruz
Veracruz (), formally Veracruz de Ignacio de la Llave (), officially the Free and Sovereign State of Veracruz de Ignacio de la Llave ( es, Estado Libre y Soberano de Veracruz de Ignacio de la Llave), is one of the 31 states which, along with Mexico City, comprise the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico. Lalana River
The Lalana River is a river of Oaxaca and Veracruz states of Mexico. It originates in the Sierra de Villa Alta sub-range of the Sierra Madre de Oaxaca in Oaxaca, and flows northeastwards onto the Gulf Coastal Plain, where it joins the Trinidad River in Veracruz to form the San Juan River. Sierra Madre De Oaxaca
The Sierra Madre de Oaxaca is a mountain range in southern Mexico. It is primarily in the state of Oaxaca, and extends north into the states of Puebla and Veracruz. Geography The mountain range begins at Pico de Orizaba, and extends in a southeasterly direction for 300 km (190 miles) until reaching the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. Peaks in the Sierra Madre de Oaxaca average 2,500 m (8200 ft) in elevation, with some peaks exceeding 3,000 m (9800 ft). Cerro Zempoaltépetl is the highest peak in the range. Hueyapan River
San Andrés Hueyapan is a small town in the rural northeastern part of the Mexican state of Morelos, formerly in the municipality of Tetela del Volcán. It lies at an elevation of ca 2000–2500 metres above sea level on the southern slopes of the active volcano Popocatépetl. To the west of Hueyapan runs the Amatzinac river, to the north is the Popocatépetl-Iztaccíhuatl natural reserve, and to the south the town of Tlacotepec and to the east is the municipality of Tochimilco which belongs to the state of Puebla located in the midlands. Hueyapan became an independent municipality on January 1, 2019. Other new municipalities are Xoxocotla and Coatetelco. Hueyapan was granted its "clave geoestadística" by INEGI on July 15, 2020, making it eligible for federal funds. Sierra De Los Tuxtlas
The Sierra de Los Tuxtlas (Tuxtlas Mountains) are a volcanic belt and mountain range along the southeastern Veracruz Gulf coast in Eastern Mexico. The Los Tuxtlas Biosphere Reserve (Biósfera Los Tuxtlas) includes the coastal and higher elevations of the Sierra de Los Tuxtlas. The volcanic mountains were used as a basalt source by the Olmec culture during the Early Formative period (1500 BCE to about 400 BCE). Quarried basalt was transported by raft through a network of rivers, to sites in the Olmec heartland for use in creating monuments, including colossal heads. Geography Peaks in this range include Volcano Santa Marta and Volcano San Martín Tuxtla, both rising above 1,700 meters.
