San Joaquin County Historical Society And Museum
The San Joaquin County Historical Society and Museum is located at Micke Grove Regional Park, between Lodi, California and Stockton, California. It was established in 1966 by San Joaquin County and the San Joaquin County Historical Society. The museum has over of exhibit and work space. Their collections have grown from a few hundred items from the estate of William G. and Julia Harrison Micke to over 75,000 artifacts and over 500,000 documents and photos representative of the development of San Joaquin County. The museum was accredited by the American Alliance of Museums in 1973. Charles Maria Weber
Rancho Campo de los Franceses was a Mexican land grant in present-day San Joaquin County, California given in 1844 by Governor Manuel Micheltorena to Guillermo Gulnac. "Campo de los Franceses” which in English means “French Camp” refers to French-Canadian fur trappers who wintered there. The grant included present-day French Camp and Stockton. History Carlos Maria Weber (1814-1881), born Karl David Weber in Steinwenden Germany, immigrated to America in 1836. After spending time in Texas, he came overland from Missouri to California with the Bartleson-Bidwell Party in 1841. Shortly after his arrival, Karl began calling himself Charles. Weber went to work for John Sutter, who vouched for "Carlos Maria Weber" to the Mexican authorities. Gold panning, or simply ''panning'', is a form of placer mining and traditional mining that extracts gold from a placer deposit using a pan. Sanborn Maps
Sanborn maps are detailed maps of U.S. cities and towns in the 19th and 20th centuries. Originally published by The Sanborn Map Company (Sanborn), the maps were created to allow fire insurance companies to assess their total liability in urbanized areas of the United States. Since they contain detailed information about properties and individual buildings in approximately 12,000 U.S. cities and towns, Sanborn maps are valuable for documenting changes in the built environment of American cities over many decades. Sanborn held a monopoly over fire insurance maps for the majority of the 20th century, but the business declined as US insurance companies stopped using maps for underwriting in the 1960s. Tracy High School is a four-year public secondary school located in Tracy, California, United States. Enrollment during the 2009-2010 school year was 2339 students. History. The West Side Union High School, renamed Tracy Union High School in 1928, is located on Tracy's eastern edge on of land on Eleventh Street. Stockton High School (1904–1966), home of the Tarzans, was a high school in Stockton, California, part of the Stockton Unified School District. It opened in 1904 on property bounded by Harding Way, Vine, San Joaquin and California streets. The main building of the old high school, which became Stockton Junior High School in 1948, was deemed unsafe and demolished in 1966.
