: ''For information on all University of San Diego sports, see San Diego Toreros'' The San Diego Toreros football program is the intercollegiate American football team for the University of San Diego located in the U.S. state of California. The team competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and are members of the Pioneer Football League. San Diego's first football team was fielded in 1956. The team plays its home games at the Torero Stadium in San Diego, California. The Toreros are coached by Dale Lindsey. Dale Lindsey
Phillip Dale Lindsey (born January 18, 1943) is an American football coach and former player. He is the head football coach at the University of San Diego. Lindsey has also worked as a coach in the National Football League (NFL), the Canadian Football League (CFL), and the United States Football League (USFL). Early life Lindsey attended and played high school football at Bowling Green High School in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where he was an All-State player. College career After high school, Lindsey signed with the University of Kentucky, where he was part of the infamous Thin Thirty team, but quit the team in the spring of his freshman year. He then transferred to Western Kentucky University, where he starred on the Hilltoppers's undefeated 1963 team that won the Tangerine Bowl. Michael Gasperson
Michael Gasperson (born June 10, 1982) is a former American football wide receiver in the National Football League. He played for the Philadelphia Eagles for one season in 2007. He was signed by the Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2005. He played college football at San Diego. Early years Gasperson was a four-sport letterman at Palma High School in Salinas, California and earned the school's Outstanding Senior Athlete award in his senior year. In addition to playing baseball, basketball and soccer as a kid, he was also a competitive swimmer. College career Gasperson played college football at the University of San Diego under former San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh. In 2002, Gasperson received first-team All-Pioneer Football League honors after hauling in a team-high 57 receptions for 907 yards and 10 touchdowns. The 2011 San Diego Toreros football team represented the University of San Diego in the 2011 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Toreros were led by fifth-year head coach Ron Caragher and played their home games at Torero Stadium. They are a member of the Pioneer Football League. Ron Caragher
Ronald Allen Caragher (born January 24, 1967) is an American athletics administrator and former college football coach who currently serves as the assistant athletics director for development at the University of San Diego. He was previously the head coach at the University of San Diego and San Jose State. Originally from Morgan Hill, California, Caragher played college football at UCLA and later became an assistant coach for UCLA football, first as a graduate assistant from 1994 to 1995, then as wide receivers coach from 1996 to 2002. From 2003 to 2006, Caragher served as running backs coach for Kentucky and was part of the 2006 Music City Bowl championship coaching staff. Kenneth Zampese (born July 19, 1967) is an American football coach who is the quarterbacks coach for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). John Matthews (born July 19, 1986) is a former American football wide receiver. He was signed by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2009. He played college football at University of San Diego. He was also a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, and San Francisco 49ers.
