Overview The San Diego Film Critics Society (SDFCS) is composed of print, television, radio and digital film critics working in San Diego County. According to the SDFCS, the mission of the society is to provide diverse critical opinion about movies, advance film education and awareness, and recognize excellence in cinema. The society holds several events each year to benefit local student filmmakers and provides provision of financial assistance for the academic pursuits of young filmmakers. ''The Illusionist'' (french: L'Illusionniste) is a 2010 animated film directed by Sylvain Chomet. The film is based on an unproduced script written by French mime, director and actor Jacques Tati in 1956. Controversy surrounds Tati's motivation for the script, which was written as a personal letter to his estranged eldest daughter, Helga Marie-Jeanne Schiel, in collaboration with his long-term writing partner Henri Marquet, between writing for the films ''Mon Oncle'' and ''Play Time''. The main character is an elderly version of Tati, with hints of his character Monsieur Hulot. The plot revolves around a struggling illusionist who visits an isolated community and meets a young lady who is convinced that he is a real magician. Dean DeBlois ( ; born 7 June 1970) is a Canadian film director, film producer, screenwriter, and animator. Lee Edward Unkrich (born August 8, 1967) is an American film director, film editor, screenwriter, and animator. He was a longtime member of the creative team at Pixar, where he started in 1994 as a film editor. He later began directing, first as co-director of ''Toy Story 2''.
