San Daniele, Padua
San Daniele is a Roman Catholic church and monastery in Padua, region of Veneto, Italy. History and description The church and its adjacent monastery were built by 1076 by Benedictines affiliated with the Basilica of Santa Giustina di Padova. Legend holds that then Bishop Ulderico had organized a procession to transport the relics of St Daniel of Padua from the church of Santa Giustina to the Cathedral, but upon arriving to this spot, the relics became too heavy to carry, and a darkness with thunder and lightning supervened, and the bishop made a promise to build here a church to the holy martyr. The saint is venerated as the deacon of Saint Prosdocimus, the first Bishop of Padua. San Daniele, sometimes labeled with the suffix "Levita", was said to have been a converted Jew who was martyred in the east in 168 A.D. Basilica Of Santa Giustina Di Padova
The Abbey of Santa Giustina is a 10th-century Benedictine abbey complex located in front of the Prato della Valle in central Padua, region of Veneto, Italy. Adjacent to the former monastery is the basilica church of Santa Giustina, initially built in the 6th century, but whose present form derives from a 17th-century reconstruction. History A church dedicated to the St Justina of Padua and of other 4th century Christian martyrs of Padua, was present at the site by the 520s, erected under the patronage of the Prefect Opilius and housing the relics of the saint. The church was already described as lavish in decoration in the 565 biography of ''Life of St Martin'', written by Venantius Fortunatus. By the 10th century, pilgrims who came to the basilica to venerate the saints' relics, were ministered by monks. In 971, Bishop of Padua placed the community under the Rule of St. Benedict. Saint Daniel of Padua (died 168 AD) is venerated as the deacon of Saint Prosdocimus, the first Bishop of Padua. Said to have been of Jewish extraction, he aided Prosdocimus, who evangelized northeastern Nava. Daniel was later martyred. Daniel's relics, translated on January 3, 1064, lie in the cathedral of Padua. Prosdocimus
Saint Prosdocimus (Prosdecimus) of Padua ( it, Prosdocimo, german: Prosdozimus) (d. November 7, ca. 100 AD) is venerated as the first bishop of Padua. Tradition holds that, being of Greek origin, he was sent from Antioch by Saint Peter the Apostle. He is thus often depicted in art with this Apostle. The cathedral at Feltre is dedicated to him and Saint Peter the Apostle, and the artist Il Pordenone (c. 1483 - 1539) created a work depicting Prosdocimus with Peter. He evangelized the region and is said to have founded the parish church at Isola Vicentina. His tomb is situated at the basilica of Santa Giustina at Padua. The chapel dedicated to him there was built over his tomb outside the walls of Padua. Francesco Muttoni (January 22, 1669 – February 21, 1747) was an Italian architect, engineer, and architectural writer, mainly active near Vicenza, Italy. Biography He was born in Lacima, near Porlezza, on Lake Lugano, but his family moved to Vicenza in 1696, where his father worked as a bricklayer. In Vicenza, he was a pupil of Giovanni Battista Albanese, who in turn had trained with Vincenzo Scamozzi. He was prolific. Iacopo Negretti (1548/50 – 14 October 1628), best known as Jacopo or Giacomo Palma il Giovane or simply Palma Giovane ("Young Palma"), was an Italian painter from Venice and a notable exponent of the Venetian school.
