Saint Damian
Cosmas and Damian ( ar, قُزما ودميان, translit=Qozma wa Demyaan; grc-gre, Κοσμᾶς καὶ Δαμιανός, translit=Kosmás kai Damianós; la, Cosmas et Damianus; AD) were two Arabs, Arab physicians in the town Cyrrhus, and were reputedly twin brothers, and early Christian martyrs. They practised their profession in the seaport of Yumurtalık, Aegeae, then in the Roman province of Syria (Roman province), Syria. Cosmas and Damian were third century Arabian-born twin brothers who embraced Christianity and practised medicine and surgery without a fee. This led them to being named ''anargyroi'' (from the Greek , 'the silverless' or 'Holy Unmercenaries, unmercenaries'); by this, they attracted many to the Christian faith. They reputedly cured blindness, fever, paralysis and reportedly expelled a breast serpent. San Damiano d'Asti is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Asti in the Italian region Piedmont, located about southeast of Turin and about southwest of Asti. History The area of the municipality was once occupied in the Middle Ages by the commune of ''Axtizio'' and its suburbs of Gorzano, Lavezzole and Marcelengo. San Damiano (Brugherio)
San Damiano is a hamlet in far north Brugherio, Italy. It is located between the Milan-Bergamo highway and the eastern road ring of Monza. It is away from the town center. History During the Carolingian period San Damiano was a village built around a monastery under the supervision of Saint Ambrose of Milan. In a document dating to the year 853, San Damiano housed a church dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian. During the Middle Ages the town did not host any important events. By the 14th century, the town still existed. In the 16th century a local parish was built by Saint Charles Borromeo, alas San Damiano did not join the parish given its population would be forced to pay a fee for the parish priest's allowance. San Damiano remained in the parish of San Gerardo in Monza. By 1751 it was a separate municipality with 75 inhabitants administered by a consul elected by the population. San Damiano, Assisi
San Damiano is a church with a monastery near Assisi, Italy. Built in the 12th century, it was the first monastery of the Order of Saint Clare, where Saint Clare built her community. The church has a hut-shaped façade; the entrance is preceded by a short portico with three round arcades supported by brickwork pillars. Above the central arch is a circular rose window. The interior has a single nave with ogival barrel vaults. The right wall is home to a rectangular chapel with, at the altar, a wooden crucifix executed by Innocenzo da Petralia in 1637. The nave ends with a deep apse with a modern stone altar, a Baroque wooden tabernacle and the choir. San Damiano Cross
The San Damiano Cross is the large Romanesque rood cross before which St. Francis of Assisi was praying when he is said to have received the commission from the Lord to rebuild the Church. It now hangs in the Basilica of Saint Clare (''Basilica di Santa Chiara'') in Assisi, Italy, with a replica in its original position in the church of San Damiano nearby. Franciscans cherish this cross as the symbol of their mission from God. The cross is a crucifix of a type sometimes called an icon cross because in addition to the main figure of the Christ, it contains images of other saints and people related to the incident of Christ's crucifixion. The tradition of such painted crucifixes began in the Eastern Church and possibly reached Italy via Montenegro and Croatia.
