Samwell Tarly, or simply Sam, is a fictional character in the ''A Song of Ice and Fire'' series of fantasy novels by American author George R. R. Martin, and its television adaptation, ''Game of Thrones''. Introduced in 1996's ''A Game of Thrones'', Samwell is the elder son of Lord Randyll Tarly of Horn Hill and his wife Lady Melessa Florent. A self-professed coward with a love for books and songs, Samwell was forced by his father to abandon his birthright and join the Night's Watch so that his younger brother could become heir to Horn Hill. While at the Wall, he meets Jon Snow and quickly becomes his closest friend and ally. Samwell (entertainer)
Samuel Johnson, better known by his stage name Samwell, is an American entertainer whose 2007 video "What What (In the Butt)" made him an Internet celebrity. Early years Samwell was born in Greenville, South Carolina. He has an undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Career Samwell is unsigned, but for a time his "What What (In the Butt)" was licensed through Fatboy Slim's record label, Southern Fried Records. The "What What (In the Butt)" video is licensed through Brownmark Films. The song was used extensively in the ''South Park'' season 12 episode " Canada on Strike", which featured a re-creation of the ''What What'' video. In April 2008 Samwell appeared on the BBC television show ''Lily Allen and Friends'' for an interview and performed a live version of "What What (In the Butt)" with choreographed dancers. Ian Samwell
Ian Ralph Samwell (19 January 1937 – 13 March 2003) was an English musician, singer-songwriter and record producer. He is best known as the writer of Cliff Richard's debut single "Move It", and his association with the rock band America, with whom he had his biggest commercial success with their hit single, "A Horse with No Name". He also worked with rock bands, such as the Small Faces, The Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa, Joni Mitchell, John Mayall and Hummingbird. Samwell wrote for many other British artists, including Joe Brown, Elkie Brooks, Kenny Lynch and Dusty Springfield. Several of his songs were recorded in Spanish by the Mexican group, Los Teen Tops and were released in Latin America and the Spanish-speaking territories of the world. David Samwell
David Samwell (15 October 1751 – 23 November 1798) was a Welsh naval surgeon and poet. He was an important supporter of Welsh cultural organisations and was known by the pseudonym Dafydd Ddu Feddyg. Personal history Samwell was born in Nantglyn, a small village in Denbighshire to William Samuel, a local vicar. His grandfather, Edward Samuel was also a notable Welsh author and poet. Samwell became a surgeon in the Royal Navy and between 1776 and 1779 he sailed around the world with Captain James Cook on board . As a ship's surgeon it was Samwell's job to ensure the crew's health did not deteriorate over the long journeys to the Pacific Ocean. Aboard the ship Samwell wrote of his travels, including some poetry. Sir Thomas Samwell, 2nd Baronet Samwell (14 April 1687 – 16 November 1757), was a British politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1715 to 1722. Samwell was the only son of Sir Thomas Samwell, 1st Baronet of Upton, Northamptonshire and his wife Anne Godschalk, daughter of Sir John Godschalk of Atherstone-on-Stour. He succeeded his father in the estates and baronetcy in 1694. He was admitted at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge in 1704, and then undertook a Grand Tour through the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and France. Samwell was elected Whig Member of Parliament for Coventry at the 1715 general election together with his cousin Sir Adolphus Oughton, 1st Baronet. He did not stand in 1722. Samwell married twice: firstly to Millicent Fuller, daughter and heiress of Rev. The Samwell Baronetcy, of Upton in the County of Northampton, was a title in the Baronetage of England. It was created on 22 December 1675 Thomas Samwell, later Member of Parliament for Northamptonshire and Northampton. William Samwell (architect)
William Samwell (1628–1676) was an English architect. He was born in Dean's Yard, Westminster, to Anthony Samwell, son of Sir William Samwell, Auditor of the Exchequer to Queen Elizabeth I. He was one of the gentleman architects who helped define the architectural style that was fashionable after the Restoration. One of his principal buildings was at Grange Park, Northington which he designed and constructed from 1664 to 1670 for Sir Robert Henley. There are no known pictures of the Samwell house. The Grange, Northington was subsequently remodelled by William Wilkins and is one of the earliest Greek Revival houses in Europe. He also designed and built Bushy House from 1664 to 1665 for Edward Proger. Having established himself under King Charles II, he was commissioned to build the King's residence in Newmarket from 1668 to 1671. Sometime after 1814, most of the residence was demolished.
