Samvel Babayan
Samvel Andraniki Babayan ( hy, Սամվել Անդրանիկի Բաբայան; born 5 March 1965) is an Armenian military commander and politician from Nagorno-Karabakh. He was one of the founders and main commanders of the Artsakh Defence Army during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War and became a hero among Armenians for the military victories achieved under his command. Following the war, he served as the Defense Minister of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic from 1994 to 2000. During this period, Babayan "became not only the military leader but the most powerful man in Karabakh overall, controlling its government and economy" until his arrest and imprisonment in 2000 on charges of attempting to assassinate Arkadi Ghukasyan, President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. Samvel Vladimirovich Gasparov (russian: Самве́л Влади́мирович Гаспа́ров; 7 June 1938 – 26 May 2020) was a Russian film director and short story writer. He worked for some time at the Odessa Film Studio. He was buried at Khovanskoye Cemetery. Samvel Karapetian ( hy, Սամվել Կարապետյան; 30 July 1961 – 27 February 2020) was an Armenian historian, researcher, author, and expert of medieval architecture, specializing in the study of the historical monuments of Armenia, Nagorno Karabakh and other regions of the Southern Caucasus. Research work Karapetian surveyed and catalogued thousands of artifacts of Armenian history and architecture during the course of more than two decades. Karapetyan was head of the Yerevan branch of the NGO Research on Armenian Architecture (RAA). Karapetyan was also known as an outspoken critic of the treatment of Armenian monuments in Turkey: he argued that Turkey has a policy of intentional neglect and planned destruction. Samvel Melkonyan ( hy, Սամվել Մելքոնյան, born on 15 March 1984 in Yerevan, Armenian SSR, Soviet Union) is an Armenian former footballer who played as a winger. Samvel was also a member of the Armenia national football team, participated in 29 international matches since his debut at home 2006 World Cup qualification match against the Netherlands on 3 September 2005. Samvel Yervinyan ( hy, Սամվել Երվինյան, born January 25, 1966) is an Armenian violinist and composer. Biography Yervinyan was born in Yerevan, Armenia. He began studying at the age of 7 in Spenderian Music School under the tutoring of Armen Minasian. In the competitions he participated, he won all the first place prizes in his age group. He played Henry Vieuxtemps' 2nd concert on his graduation day and received a standing ovation from all the faculty members. He continued his studies at Tchaikovsky's Music Conservatory, under the guidance and tutoring of Maestro Edward Dayan. In the following years he became the professor's pride and strongest prospect for future concert violinist. Samuel ( Hebrew: שְׁמוּאֵל ''Šəmūʾēl'', Tiberian: ''Šămūʾēl'') is a male given name and a surname of Hebrew origin. From its appearance it seems to have the meaning of "God has set" or "God has placed", appearing to derive from the Hebrew Śāmū (שָׂמוּ) + ʾĒl (God has set/placed). The Hebrew śāmū is also related to the Akkadian šâmū (𒊮𒈬), which shares the same meaning.
