Samuel Morrison (taekwondo)
Samuel Thomas Harper Morrison (born March 26, 1990, in Olongapo, Zambales), also known as Butch Morrison, is a Filipino taekwondo practitioner. Career Early career During his childhood Morrison played recreational basketball. Being an avid viewer of ''Power Rangers'' and Masked Rider, these shows influenced Morrison to take up taekwondo and he started to learn the sport in a local taekwondo gym in Olongapo. Collegiate Morrison attended the University of Santo Tomas and was part of the Tiger Jins, the university's taekwondo team. He won gold for UST at the UAAP in 2008. By 2011 he was reported to be a student of the Far Eastern University. International Morrison has competed at the world championships three times. He was a gold medalist at the 2015 Southeast Asian Games, and a bronze medalist at the 2014 Asian Games. He also won silver at the 2011 Summer Universiade. 2016 Asian Taekwondo Olympic Qualification Tournament
The 2016 Asian Qualification Tournament for Rio Olympic Games was held from April 16 to 17, 2016 at the Marriot Convention Center Grand Ballroom in Pasay, Metro Manila, Philippines. The top two athletes from each weight division qualified for the Olympics. 98 athletes from 36 Asian countries entered the qualification tournament. 4 million pesos approved budget by the Philippine Sports Commission was spent by the Philippine Taekwando Association for the hosting rights and event preparations. Taekwondo at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro took place from 17 to 20 August at the Carioca Arena 3 inside the Barra Olympic Park in Barra da Tijuca. Around 128 taekwondo fighters competed in eight weight categories; four for men, and four for women. Qualification Taekwondo competition at these Games featured a total of 128 athletes, 64 in each gender, and 16 in each of the eight weight categories. Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) was allowed to enter up to a maximum of eight competitors, four of each gender, based on the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) Olympic rankings, such that an athlete per NOC must be among the top six in each weight category.
