Sam Morris (cricketer)
Samuel Morris (22 June 1855 – 20 September 1931) was an Australian cricketer who played in one Test in 1885. He was the first black man to play Test cricket, as well as the first person of West Indian heritage and the first Tasmanian-born player to play Tests. He and Andrew Symonds are the only people of West Indian heritage to play for Australia. Early life Morris's mother Elizabeth McGuiness was born in Van Diemen's Land of West Indian parents. His father Isaac Morris was from Barbados and had travelled to Australia in the gold-rush years of the early 1850s. Sam was born in Hobart, Van Diemen's Land, in 1855, and the family moved to the Daylesford gold fields in the Colony of Victoria in the late 1850s. Samuel Herbert Morris (23 October 1886 – December 1969) was an English professional footballer who played in the Football League for Brentford as a wing half. Club career Early years Morris joined First Division club Aston Villa in 1906, but failed to make an appearance before departing the club at the end of the 1906–07 season. He moved to Southern League First Division club Queens Park Rangers in 1908. He remained at Loftus Road until joining divisional rivals Bristol Rovers in 1911, after a short spell with Second Division club Birmingham. Morris remained with Rovers during the First World War and left the club after the armistice, in 1919. Brentford Morris signed for Southern League First Division club Brentford in 1919, after having guested for the club during the war. Samuel Morris III (born March 23, 1977) is a former American football running back in the National Football League (NFL) for the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. He played college football at Texas Tech University. Early years Morris attended John Jay High School, where he played both quarterback and running back. As a senior, he was named the San Antonio Offensive Player of the Year by the San Antonio Express-News and the District 28-5A MVP. He accepted a football scholarship from Texas Tech University. Samuel Alfredo Morris de Olea (1870 - 23 August 1935), was an Anglo-Filipino football pioneer who played as a goalkeeper for some of the earliest Catalan clubs in existence. His younger brothers, Enrique and Miguel, followed him every step through, and together with them, he was one of the first pioneers of football in Catalonia, playing for several experimental teams in the 1890s such as ''Barcelona Football Club'' and ''Sociedad de Foot-Ball de Barcelona''. Samuel was a member of the Hispania AC side that won the 1900–01 Copa Macaya, which was the very first football competition played on the Iberian Peninsula. Samuel Morris (merchant)
Samuel Morris (November 21, 1711 – April 1782) was a merchant and Patriot in colonial and revolutionary-era Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Born in Philadelphia, the son of Anthony Morris, he took an active part in the affairs of the province. In 1756 he was commissioned by Governor Robert Hunter Morris an auditor to settle the accounts of the ill-fated Braddock expedition. He was a zealous advocate of independence, and during the American Revolution was a member of the committee of safety and the board of war. In 1777 he was appointed register of wills of Philadelphia, which office he held until 1782. From 1779 till his death he was a trustee of the University of Pennsylvania. He died in Philadelphia in April 1782. Family Samuel Morris married Hannah Cadwalader. Their sons James and Samuel Cadwalader attended the Academy of Philadelphia in its earliest years. Samuel Morris (June 24, 1734 – July 7, 1812) was an American soldier in the American Revolutionary War. He is the patriarch of one of Philadelphia's most prominent families. Biography Samuel Morris was born in Philadelphia, Province of Pennsylvania. He was the son of Anthony Morris (14 Feb 1705/06–2 Oct 1780) and the former Sarah Powell (29 Jun 1713–10 Apr 1751). His grandfather was Anthony Morris (II). He served several terms in the legislature, and married Rebecca Wistar, daughter of Caspar Wistar (the elder). In 1776, he was elected "governor" of the social club known as " The State in Schuylkill," and re-elected annually until his death. Samuel Wells Morris (September 1, 1786 – May 25, 1847) was a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvaniabr> Samuel W. Morris was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Benjamin Wistar Morris. He pursued an academic degree at Princeton College. Samuel Wheeler Morris (August 21, 1918 – December 18, 1995) was a former Democratic member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Career Samuel Morris served in World War II and saw action in northern France. He was elected to the Pennsylvania State House as a Democrat in a heavily Republican district and always faced well-funded opponents. Samuel Kaboo Morris
Samuel Kaboo Morris (1873 – May 12, 1893) was a Liberian prince who converted to evangelical Christianity around the age of 14. Around age 18, he left Liberia for the United States to achieve an education and arrived at Taylor University in December 1891. There is now a residence hall at Taylor bearing his name. He died in 1893 from complications of a respiratory infection. Morris's life has been the subject of five novels, over a dozen biographies, a 1954 film, and a 1988 documentary. Taylor University has named numerous buildings, scholarships, and a society in his honor, and his story has helped to inspire others to go to Africa to preach the Gospel.
