Samuel M. Robertson
Samuel Matthews Robertson (January 1, 1852 – December 24, 1911) was a U.S. Representative from Louisiana, son of Edward White Robertson. Born in Plaquemine, Iberville Parish, Louisiana, Robertson attended Magruder's Collegiate Institute, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and studied law at Louisiana State University, graduating in 1874. He was admitted to the bar the same year and commenced practice in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Robertson was elected a member of the State house of representatives in 1879. He served as member of the LSU faculty in 1880. Robertson was elected as a Democrat to the Fiftieth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of his father, Edward White Robertson. He was reelected to the Fifty-first and to the eight succeeding Congresses, serving from December 5, 1887, to March 3, 1907. The 52nd United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, consisting of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. It met in Washington, D.C. from March 4, 1891, to March 4, 1893, during the final two years of Benjamin Harrison's presidency. The apportionment of seats in the House of Representatives was based on the Tenth Census of the United States in 1880. George Kent Favrot
George Kent Favrot (November 26, 1868 – December 26, 1934) was a U.S. Representative from Louisiana. Born in Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, Favrot attended the public schools and was graduated from Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge in 1888 and from the law department of Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1890. He was admitted to the bar in 1890 and commenced practice in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He served as district attorney of the twenty-second judicial district of Louisiana 1892-1896. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1896. He served as delegate at large to the State constitutional convention in 1898. He again served as district attorney 1900-1904. Magnolia Cemetery is a cemetery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Description The cemetery is located at 422 North 19th Street and is bordered on the north by Main Street and on the south by Florida Boulevard. The west and east sides are bordered by 19th Street and 22nd Street, respectively. The land for the cemetery was purchased by the town of Baton Rouge from John Christian Buhler Jr, in August 1852, with burials in the area dating back to the 1820s according to some sources. The cemetery was the site of intense fighting during the Battle of Baton Rouge on August 5, 1862; a commemorative ceremony is held at the cemetery each August.
