Samuel Kraemer
Samuel Kraemer (1857–1937) was a rancher, farmer, and businessman who is credited with much of the development of Anaheim, California during the 1920s. Kraemer was born July 9, 1857, in Illinois, the son of Elenora Schrag and Daniel Kraemer. His father moved the family to Orange County in 1867, becoming the first English-speaking settlers in Placentia, California. He married Angelina Yorba, the last of the "grand" Yorbas descending from Jose Antonio Yorba, in 1886, joining parts of the old Yorba lands to his own tracts. He eventually would inherit a piece of his father's sizable land holdings too. Samuel Kraemer Building
The Samuel Kraemer Building, in Anaheim, California, was built in 1924-1925 by Samuel Kraemer. It was the first high-rise building in Orange County. Samuel Kraemer 'made a fortune' from oil being discovered on his land. Kraemer invested his wealth in developing much of downtown Anaheim during the 1920s, including this six-story building for the American Savings Bank of Anaheim. The rich use of Gladding-McBean tile on the entire south and west facades arguably made it the most outstanding building in North Orange County when it was built. Designed by local architect M. Eugene Durfee, the building was the tallest in Orange County. It remained so for over four decades. The building once was the headquarters of El Camino Savings and Loan. Daniel Kraemer
Daniel Kraemer (1816–1882) was the first English-speaking pioneer to settle Placentia, California. Born in Kingdom of Bavaria on November 16, 1816, Kraemer emigrated to the United States in 1838 and settled near Belleville, Illinois. In 1865, he traveled to Southern California and purchased a parcel of land and an adobe house from Juan Pacifico Ontiveros' Rancho San Juan Cajon de Santa Ana. Two years later, he traveled to Illinois and returned with his family. He operated the ranch until his death on February 6, 1882. In addition, Kraemer donated the land for a school and established the Cajon School District in 1875. Daniel Kraemer and his wife, Magdalena Shrag, had nine children. Union Oil Company of California, and its holding company Unocal Corporation, together known as Unocal was a major petroleum explorer and marketer in the late 19th century, through the 20th century, and into the early 21st century. It was headquartered in El Segundo, California, United States. Unocal was involved in domestic and global energy projects.
