The Western Australian Legislative Assembly, or lower house, is one of the two chambers of the Parliament of Western Australia, an Australian state. The Parliament sits in Parliament House in the Western Australian capital, Perth. The Legislative Assembly today has 59 members, elected for four-year terms from single-member electoral districts. Members are elected using the preferential voting system. As with all other Australian states and territories, voting is compulsory for all Australian citizens over the legal voting age of 18. Electoral District Of Irwin
Irwin was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia from 1890 to 1950. Based in the state's Mid West agricultural region and centred on the town of Dongara, the district was one of the original 30 seats contested at the 1890 election. In 1898, it included Port Denison and a number of towns along the Midland railway, including Dongara, Irwin, Mingenew, Arrino, Carnamah, Coorow, Marchagee, and Watheroo. The district was renamed Irwin-Moore with the abolition of Moore at the 1930 election. Irwin-Moore was abolished at the 1950 election and the seat of Moore recreated. Sitting member John Ackland of the Country Party successfully transferred to the new seat. Claremont, Western Australia
Claremont is a western suburb of Perth, Western Australia, on the north bank of the Swan River. History Prior to European settlement, the Noongar people used the area as a source of water, for fishing and for catching waterfowl. In 1830, John Butler, a settler, set up an inn at Freshwater Bay (in modern-day Peppermint Grove) to attract travellers on the road from Perth to Fremantle. A wetland became known as Butler's Swamp (later Lake Claremont). After the arrival of convicts in the colony in 1850, work began on constructing the Fremantle Road. The government allocated land on the foreshore and at Butler's Swamp to 19 Pensioner Guards and their families, and a permanent convict depot operated at Freshwater Bay (until 1875). A state school (1862) and church were built, and a community grew around what is now Victoria Avenue. The Western Australian Liberal Party was a political party which existed from 1911 until 1917 in the Australian state of Western Australia. Background The Party, which had its roots in various earlier political movements, came together in the period immediately prior to the 1911 state election under the guidance of Sir John Forrest, the Federal member for Swan and former Premier of Western Australia, and other leading political figures in the State. It was assembled in response to the solid organisation of the Labor Party and had the aim of assisting Ministerial members in winning seats and retaining power in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. Greenough Road Board
The Greenough Road District was an early form of local government area in the Mid West region of Western Australia. It was based in the town of Greenough. It was established on 24 January 1871, and was originally a much larger district, including much of the future Shire of Murchison and Shire of Mullewa areas. The Murchison Road District was separated from the Greenough district on 3 August 1875 and the Mullewa Road District was separated on 11 August 1911.
