Samuel Bradstreet
Sir Samuel Bradstreet, 3rd Baronet (October 1738 – 2 May 1791) was an Irish politician, barrister and judge. His independence of mind as a politician gave rise to the somewhat misleading nickname "Slippery Sam". He was the second son of Sir Simon Bradstreet, 1st Baronet of Kilmainham, Dublin and his wife and first cousin Ellen Bradstreet, daughter of Samuel Bradstreet of Gowran, County Kilkenny and Elizabeth Agar. In 1773, Samuel succeeded his older brother Simon as third baronet. He was educated at Trinity College Dublin and was then called to the Bar by the Middle Temple in 1758, becoming King's Counsel in 1767 In 1766, he became Recorder of Dublin. Bradstreet entered the Irish House of Commons as Member of Parliament (MP) for Dublin City in 1776, representing the constituency until 1784, when he was appointed Fourth Justice at the Court of King's Bench (Ireland). Irish Patriot Party
The Irish Patriot Party was the name of a number of different political groupings in Ireland throughout the 18th century. They were primarily supportive of Whig concepts of personal liberty combined with an Irish identity that rejected full independence, but advocated strong self-government within the British Empire. Due to the discriminatory penal laws, the Irish Parliament at the time was exclusively Anglican Protestant. Their main achievement was the Constitution of 1782, which gave Ireland legislative independence. Early Irish Patriots In 1689 a short-lived "Patriot Parliament" had sat in Dublin before James II, and briefly obtained ''de facto'' legislative independence, while ultimately subject to the English monarchy. Bradstreet Baronets
The Bradstreet Baronetcy, of Castilla in County Dublin was created in the Baronetage of Ireland on 14 July 1759 for Simon Bradstreet. His son, the second Baronet died without male issue in 1773 and was succeeded by his younger brother, a Member of Parliament for Dublin in the Irish House of Commons, and later a judge. The fourth baronet was a barrister. The latter's elder son, the fifth Baronet died childless in 1889 and the title went to his younger brother. With the death of the seventh Baronet in 1924, the baronetcy became extinct. Dudley Hussey
Dudley Hussey (-17 November 1785) was an Irish politician and judge. He sat in the Irish House of Commons for Taghmon and served briefly as Recorder of Dublin. His promising career was cut short by his early death, which was probably due to gaol fever. He was born in Dublin, the eldest son of Miles Hussey of Abbey Street (died 1771), a teacher of mathematics. He entered the Middle Temple and was called to the Bar in 1766. He became MP for Taghmon in 1783. Taghmon was a rotten borough and he is said to have paid a considerable sum to secure his election. In 1784 he was elected Recorder of Dublin, beating three other candidates for the office (the Recorder was not a Crown appointment but was elected by Dublin Corporation). However, he died in November of the following year, reportedly from gaol fever caught while inspecting a prison. Booterstown () is a coastal suburb of the city of Dublin in Ireland. It is also a townland and civil parish in the modern county of Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown. It is situated about south of Dublin city centre. History There is some debate on the origin of the town name Booterstown. Historically known in English as "Ballyboother" the name "Booterstown" is an anglicised form of the original Irish name ''Baile an Bhóthair'', meaning "The Town of the Road".
