Samuel Anderson Purviance
Samuel Anderson Purviance (January 10, 1809 – February 14, 1882) was a Whig, Opposition Party and Republican politician and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Samuel Anderson Purviance was born in Butler, Pennsylvania. He entered college and pursued a partial course and then studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1827 and commenced practice in Butler. He moved to Warren County, Pennsylvania, and was prosecuting attorney for two years. He returned to Butler, where he continued the practice of law. He was a delegate to the state constitutional convention of 1837 and 1838. He was a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1838 and 1839. He was a delegate to the 1844 Whig National Convention and to the Republican National Convention in 1856, 1860, 1864, and 1868. The Pennsylvania Attorney General is the chief law enforcement officer of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It became an elected office in 1980. The current Attorney General is Democrat Josh Shapiro. On August 15, 2016, then-Attorney General Kathleen Kane was convicted of criminal charges, including conspiracy, perjury, and obstruction of justice, and announced her resignation the following day, effective August 17. Consequently, as the Solicitor General, Bruce Castor assumed the office as Acting Attorney General. Robert McKnight
Robert McKnight (January 20, 1820 – October 25, 1885) was an American lawyer and politician who represented Pennsylvania's 22nd congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 1859 to 1863. Early life and education Robert McKnight was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended the common schools and a private school at Xenia, Ohio. He graduated from Princeton College in 1839. Career McKnight studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1842, and joined a law partnership with Henry S. Magraw in Pittsburgh. In 1846, he was hired to be a solicitor for the Bank of Pittsburgh. MnKnight served as a member of the Pittsburgh City Council from 1847 to 1849, and was subsequently elected as a Republican to the Thirty-sixth and Thirty-seventh Congresses.
