Samrat Pandit
Samrat Pandit (born in 1982) is an Indian classical vocalist. He sings khyal (pure classical genre) in the Patiala gharana (singing style), and semi-classical like thumri and Tappa. Early life Samrat Pandit was born in Kolkata, India. He belongs to a family of musicians and is the 6th generation from his family into music. He was taught music by his father, Jagdish Prasad, a Hindustani classical singer, himself a direct disciple of Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. At age five, Samrat participated in the "Bal Kalakar" program of All India Radio in Bhopal. He started touring with his father when he was adolescent, accompanying him on stage. His mother, Sandhya Pandit, an English teacher at Kendriya Vidyalaya (Central Government school), accompanies him on stage, playing the tanpura. Dilshad Khan is a Hindustani classical singer. Early life and background Khan was born Arabinda Dasgupta in Kolkata. Dilshad is the younger brother of eminent sarod maestro Buddhadev Das Gupta. Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Festival
The Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav (formerly known as the Sawai Gandharva Sangeet Mahotsav and simply known as Sawai) is an annual Indian Classical music festival held in Pune since 1953. The festival is hosted by the Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal (ASPM) and initiated by Bhimsen Joshi as a memorial music conference commemorating the life and work of Joshi's guru, Sawai Gandharva, the festival's namesake. While Joshi was leading the organisation of the festival, performing artists received personal invitations from him to perform at it. With an emphasis on Hindustani Classical Khayal music, instrumentalists, dancers, dhrupadiyas, Bhakti musicians, Ghazal musicians, Qawwaliyas, and Carnatic musicians frequent the concert lineup. Ustad Rashid Khan (born 1 July 1968) is an Indian classical musician in the Hindustani music tradition. He belongs to the Rampur-Sahaswan gharana, and is the great-grandson of gharana founder Inayat Hussain Khan. He is married to Soma Khan. In a story told in several versions, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi once remarked that Rashid Khan was the "assurance for the future of Indian vocal music". The SRA site gives the Bhimsen Joshi accolade as: "One of the most notable torchbearers of the Hindustani classical tradition in the twenty first century" He was awarded the Padma Shri, as well as the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2006.
