Samrat Chakrabarti (born 22 August 1975) is a British-American film actor and musician of Indian descent. Early life Born in London to Indian Hindu Bengali immigrant parents from Kolkata. He performed in Indian community functions in Boston, Massachusetts, where he was exposed to music, poetry and the plays of Rabindranath Tagore. Career Acting Having acted all through school, Chakrabarti's feature film debut came in 2004 in Spike Lee's ''She Hate Me''. Early in his career, he starred opposite Molly Shannon in ''The Wedding Weekend'' and then in Manish Acharya's ''Loins of Punjab Presents''. He also had a role in the Australian film, ''The Waiting City''. Samrat Mukerji (born 29 May 1970) is an Indian actor who appears in Hindi and Bengali cinema and soap operas. Family background Samrat Mukerji is part of the Mukherjee-Samarth family clan of Bollywood. His paternal grandfather, Sashadhar Mukherjee, was a filmmaker and co-founder of Filmalaya Studios in Amboli, Mumbai. Samrat Upadhyay ( ne, सम्राट उपाध्याय)(born 1964) is a Nepalese born American writer who writes in English. Upadhyay is a professor of creative writing and has previously served as the Director of the Creative Writing Program at Indiana University. He is the first Nepali-born fiction writer writing in English to be published in the West. He was born and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal, and came to the United States in 1984 at the age of twenty-one. He lives with his wife and daughter in Bloomington, Indiana. In 2001, Upadhyay won a Whiting Award for fiction. He was an English professor at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio before moving to Indiana in 2003. His books specially portray the current situation in Nepal, which Upadhyay views largely through the lens of contemporary American realist fiction. Paṇḍita Jagannātha Samrāṭ (1652–1744) was an Indian astronomer and mathematician who served in the court of Jai Singh II of Amber, and was also his guru. Jagannātha, whose father's name was Gaṇeśa, and grandfather's Viṭṭhala was from a Vedic family originally from Maharashtra. At the suggestion of Jai Singh, he learned Arabic and Persian, in order to study Islamic astronomy. Having become proficient in these languages, he translated texts in these languages into Sanskrit.
