Alexander Samoylov
Count Aleksander Nikolayevich Samoylov (russian: Александр Николаевич Самойлов) (1744 – 1 November 1814) was a Russian general and statesman. Alexander Samoylov was born into the family of senator Nikolay Samoylov. He started his military service in 1760 as a soldier of Leib-Guard Semyonovsky Regiment. Later he was moved to the frontline forces and took part in the Russo-Turkish War, 1768–1774 and, for his part in the taking of Silistra, received the Order of St. George of 4th degree. The rise to power of his relative Prince Potemkin led to a comital title being bestowed upon Samoilov in 1775. After that, he obtained quick promotion: in 1775 he was appointed a member of commission for the trial of Yemelyan Pugachev. Also he was promoted to ''kamer-yunker'' (cadet) and became the chairman of the State Council of Imperial Russia, which existed in the reign of Catherine II in 1776–1787. Tatiana Samoylova
Tatiana Yevgenyevna Samoilova (russian: link=no, Татья́на Евге́ньевна Само́йлова; 4 May 1934 – 4 May 2014) was a Soviet and Russian film actress best known for her lead role in ''The Cranes Are Flying'' (1957). She received a number of awards for the film, including a special mention at the Cannes Film Festival. Samoilova had several major roles in the 1960s before largely disappearing from public life. In 1993, she was named a People's Artist of Russia. She made a comeback in the 2000s and received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2007 Moscow Film Festival. Julia Olegovna Samoilova ( rus, Ю́лия Оле́говна Само́йлова, , ˈjʉlʲɪjə ɐˈlʲeɡəvnə sɐˈmojləvə; born 7 April 1989), sometimes credited as Yulia Samoilova or Julia Samoylova, is a Russian singer-songwriter. Yevgeny Valerianovich Samoilov (russian: Евгений Валерианович Самойлов) (16 April 1912 in St. Petersburg – 17 February 2006 in Moscow) was a Soviet actor who gained prominence in youthful heroic parts and was named a People's Artist of the USSR in 1974. He was the father of Tatiana Samoilova. Life Samoilov is not related to the famous Samoilov family that dominated the Maly Theatre in the 19th century. He was educated in Leningrad, starting his career at a local theatre. In 1934 he was noticed by Vsevolod Meyerhold who invited him to join his own troupe in Moscow. Alexander Filippovich Samoylov (7 April 1867 – 22 July 1930) was a Russian physiologist and pioneer of electrophysiology and electrocardiography who applied techniques of using the ECG for diagnostic purposes. He served as a professor at Kazan University from 1903 until his death. Samoylov was born in Odessa and after losing his father at an early age, he began to work to earn for the family. He went to the local gymnasium and then joined the Novorossiisk University to study physics and mathematics. He then changed to study medicine at the University of Derpt (Tartu), graduating in 1892 in medicine. He obtained a doctorate from St. Petersburg for a thesis on the fate of iron in the animal organism and joined research under Ivan Pavlov on digestion.
