Sammy Kitwara
Sammy Kirop Kitwara (born 26 November 1986 in Sagat (town), Sagat, Marakwet District) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who specialises in road running events. He is coached by Moses Kiptanui. As of January 2020 he is the 12th fastest half marathon runner in history. Biography He went to Embomir Primary School and Kerio Valley Secondary school, from which he graduated in 2004. He did not take up running until 2007, later quoting ''"I saw I was not making any progress in life and my family needed assistance"''. Kitwara won four national cross-country circuit competitions in 2008, but failed at the trials for the cross-country world championships. In 2008 he took to the European road running circuit and won at the 20 Kilomètres de Paris, Dam tot Damloop and Singelloop Utrecht races. Lelisa Desisa Benti (born 14 January 1990) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who specialises in road running competitions. Desisa gained his first international medal at the 2009 African Junior Athletics Championships, where he took the 10,000 metres gold medal. John Cheruiyot Korir (born 13 December 1981) is a Kenyan athlete who specializes in long-distance running. He is known to be an athlete who often shines at trials but fails to win big competitions. Career He was born in Kiramwok, Bomet District. He began running in 1994, while still at primary school. He graduated from the Merigi Secondary School in 1998. He enlisted in the Kenyan Army in 2001. He is a member of the Kipsigis people, a Kalenjin sub-tribe. John Cheruiyot Korir is not to be confused with John Kipsang Korir, who mainly competes in U.S. races. Hendrik Ramaala (born 2 February 1972) is a South African long-distance runner. Biography Education Ramaala is a law graduate from the University of the Witwatersrand. Leonard Patrick Komon (born 10 January 1988) is a Kenyan professional long-distance runner and was the world record holder in the 10 kilometres. His 10K world record in 2010 with a time of 26:44 is a 17 seconds improvement on the previous best. He won a half marathon with 59:14 in 2014 (Berlin), which was the fastest debut half marathon in history at the time. Peter Cheruiyot Kirui (born 2 January 1988) is a Kenyan professional long-distance runner who competes over 10,000 metres on the track and in road running competitions. Bay to Breakers is an annual footrace in San Francisco, California typically on the third Sunday of May. The phrase "Bay to Breakers" reflects the fact that the race starts at the northeast end of the downtown area a few blocks from The Embarcadero (adjacent to San Francisco Bay) and runs west through the city to finish at the Great Highway (adjacent to the Pacific coast, where breakers crash onto Ocean Beach). The complete course is long. Bay to Breakers is well known for many participants wearing costumes. Zersenay Tadese (Tigrinya: ዘርእሰናይ ታደሰ; born 8 February 1982) is an Eritrean long-distance track and road running athlete. He held the men's half marathon world record from 2010 to 2018. His bronze medal in the 10,000 metres at the 2004 Athens Olympics made him the first ever Eritrean Olympic medallist, and his 20-km title at the 2006 IAAF World Road Running Championships also made him the country's first athlete to win at a world championship event.
