Sammy (band)
Sammy was the partnership of guitarist Luke Wood and guitarist/vocalist Jesse Hartman. The band was initially signed to Smells Like Records, the label owned by Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley. Later the band signed to DGC/ Geffen. The band was signed to Fire Records in the UK and Europe. The band released two albums, an EP, and multiple singles before calling it quits. ''Debut Album'' (issued in 1994) and ''Kings of the Island Empire'' (an EP issued in 1995) were both put out by Smells Like Records. Their second and final full-length, ''Tales of Great Neck Glory'', which was issued by DGC/ Geffen, followed in 1996 shortly before the band decided to split up. Sonic Youth
Sonic Youth was an American rock band based in New York City, formed in 1981. Founding members Thurston Moore (guitar, vocals), Kim Gordon (bass, vocals, guitar) and Lee Ranaldo (guitar, vocals) remained together for the entire history of the band, while Steve Shelley (drums) followed a series of short-term drummers in 1985, rounding out the core line-up. Jim O'Rourke (bass, keyboards, guitar) was also a member of the band from 1999 to 2005, and Mark Ibold (guitar, bass) was a member from 2006 to 2011. Girls Against Boys
Girls Against Boys is a post-hardcore band which formed in Washington, D.C. and subsequently relocated to New York City shortly after their formation in 1989. The band released albums on the labels Adult Swim, Touch and Go Records, Geffen Records, and Jade Tree from 1990 to 2002. Alexis Fleisig is an American drummer and photographer, best recognized for his involvement with several Washington, D.C., D.C.-based bands. Known primarily for his involvement in the post-hardcore group Girls Against Boys, Fleisig was also a founding member of the Soulside and currently performs in Paramount Styles and Bellini (Italian band), Bellini. Biography Alexis Fleisig gained an appreciation for the drums by listening to classic rock musicians such as Keith Moon, Ringo Starr and John Bonham. ''Tales of Great Neck Glory'' is an album by the American alternative rock band Sammy, released in 1996. The album was put out by DGC Records; band member Luke Wood was working for the company at the time. The first single was "Neptune Ave (Ortho Hi Rise)". Steve Shelley
Steven Jay Shelley (born June 23, 1962) is an American drummer. He is best known as the longtime drummer of the alternative rock band Sonic Youth, for whom he played from 1985 until their 2011 disbandment. Biography Shelley was born in Midland, Michigan and played in several mid-Michigan bands, including Faith and Morals and Strange Fruit, and was among the original lineup of the punk band The Crucifucks. Since 1985, he has performed with the noise rock band Sonic Youth, when he replaced Bob Bert. After leaving the Crucifucks, he moved to Manhattan with a friend, living in the apartment of Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon for dog sitting purposes while the band was in Europe. Jesse Hartman
Jesse Hartman is an American musician, film maker and actor, living in New York's East Village. Hartman formed ''Sammy'' with Luke Wood (where Hartman co-wrote, sang, and played guitar and keyboards), releasing ''Debut Album'' (1994), ''Kings of the Inland Empire'' (1995) and ''Tales of Great Neck Glory'' (1996). He then went on to form the rock/ electro group Laptop in 1997, releasing an EP, ''End Credits'', in 1997, followed by the single "Gimme The Nite" in 1998. "End Credits" garnered airplay on BBC Radio 1's ''Evening Session''. The song used samples of Hartman's ex-girlfriend's answering machine. Luke Wood is an American music executive and musician, known as being the president of both Beats Electronics from 2012 to 2010 and DGC Records from 2007 to 2010. He was also a guitarist for the 1990s alt-rock bands Sammy and Girls Against Boys.
